Hi enigmatictech,

It is not advisable to get this done. Retrofitting a power steering would involve a lot of changes to your vehicle current setup and will prove to be very expensive. It will prove to unreliable as well.

If you are looking to drive with a power steering, it would be best to trade in your old Zen for one with EPS (Electronic Power Steering)

Cheers,

gpa

You can install a hydraulic power steering (HPS) in Zen - once I inquired with my service center and they gave me an estimate of 6-7K for that.
EPS will be costlier and will set back you to 25K IMO.
All estimates are for job done outside A.S.S.
But its better to avoid these changes - as when reselling the car you will not get the same return for the amount spent.
BTW for Zen do you really need a power steering?

Please DON'T!! For a device as crucial to safety as the steering, do not mess with factory components.

Exactly. The Zen's steering is pretty light, even a low speeds. Live with it.

22k??

err.. as GTO pointed out Zen's Steering is not that bad after all. Even with the 165/65/13 its pretty "light"

22k no way, I'm gonna spend that much.
PS did cross my mind while parking, on the move its pretty ok.

Hi, so long that you get the conversion/retrofitment done by an authorised dealer, i see no problem in going for it. I had got the power steering retrofitted on our Indica DLE about 5 years ago, and it's working fine till date, with no issues whatsoever.

Yesterday I went to MASS to check the brakes of my Zen. The owner of the shop during the test drive commented that my steering is heavier than usual.
I told him its running 165/65/13 and its an old model and there was no Power Steering at that time on Zen.

He said carb Zen did come with PS.
To my knowledge it has not.

I requested for further info and he said he can give the part number too.
Yes MGP

so here you go

Part number Description Price

48200-72F21 Steering Column 40,165/- (INR)
38720-700F00 Controller Box 14879/- (INR)

He insisted that this is an Electronic PS.
Any thoughts guys ?
