The only reason a lot of us are returning to this thread is to check if there are any dyno charts on it (of the car in question). And lets hope that this is the "only" reason and not to debate this matter further..rather than sparking up unwanted and uncalled for posts that add no value whatsoever..

A simple thread on someones driving experience has been blown out of proportion and this is one of the reasons that many "registered" users on T-BHP might/do not like to put details of their own builds so as to respond to such DAQ's.

Tuner bashing seems to be getting very common on this forum among other things along with the bandwagon effect of supporting your near and dear ones . so even the tuners/owners can't be bothered to comment anymore!!

Here's a suggestion - Since the car is in Bombay (supposedly) lets speak to people you know who might know of this car and OFFER to pay for the dyno run; Especially the ones that are hell bent on posting here and demanding dyno charts. (about 3k at KS i guess) Even if 30 of you'll pool in Rs100 bucks each...

Until that point - this thread should be closed.

There have been loads and loads of posts saying the same thing (and in more detail) than you just did. And that was many pages ago.

So guess Ricky is right, you just STRETCHED the thread without adding any value.
Any autohead with sane mind will not read this thoroughly.

Joking right? I don't think 3,000 bucks for a dyno run makes a difference to someone who spends 10 lakhs on modifications. However, just in case, sure....we'll sponsor a free run. Whoever is interested can use the contact us form to set it up.

Interestingly Autocar report says that you cant tell the difference till 4000 rpm or something and it really takes off (like a rocket!) only at 6000 rpm. Which means one has to whip the car to make use of its potential?

Since this has turned into a huge debate, I did a bit of research on the web regarding the potential of the VW/Audi/Skoda 1.8T 20V engine.

Tuning and performance modifications for VAG 1.8 SO3 and SO4Turbo engine.

The above article says that 300-350 hp is possible with a bigger turbo, forged piston, forged crankshaft, & strengthened clutch. This is a very optimistic hp target that cannot be achieved very easily, and is likely the maximum possible with this motor.

Actually if the the poster were to list the technical details of the modifications, such as the turbo model, boost pressure, piston type, etc., one can make a reasonably accurate estimate of the power output of a particular motor. For example, just knowing the model of turbo will give you a theoretical max horsepower based on air flow rates.

REDmm340, I dont think they are interested.
I have been planning and working wiht some tuning houses for a friends RS during 2006-07. We were looking at 450-500 horses too.
In fact have list of spares and costings with me. but dropped the project due to its feasibility and car's "drivability".
I dont want to start another debate here hence keeping quiet till we here some confirmation from the horse's mouth ergo the tuner or owner.

One thing is for sure. after 300horses all tuners recommend a new gearbox which is much stronger.

300-350 whp and wtq (lb ft) are achievable from this engine without having to change the internals. You may need to drop compression and of course use a bigger turbo, intercooler, injectors, different plumbing etc, but the RS comes stock with a forged crankshaft, forged steel pistons, and forged connecting rods.

May be some of you may be interested in having a look at this site Dahlbck Racing - Audi, VW, Seat, Skoda, delar, tillbehr, tuning, chip upgrades, chip upgrade, performance parts, accessories they seem to be one of the best tuners from Sweden for Volkswagen group of cars. Just went through their site and was amazed to find out that they can tune a 1.8 Skoda RS upto 550bhp but at a cost.

Now I feel it simply doesn't make sense to have more than 300 bhp on a front wheel drive car. As for the upgrade well I have driven a golf 1.8T in london with an upraded hybrid turbo K04 instead of the stock K03/K03S few years back tuned to give 280whp with 450NM of torque. Now all this with just trubo upgrade, new ecu prom, injectors, complete exhaust including downpipe., intake, manifold, new fuel pump, front intercooler, Quaife Differential, stock internals and gearbox. Awesome car. Which did 100 in around less than 6 sec with not much of torque steer as it was FWD, I wonder what it would be like to have 500bhp and the amount of torque would just rip / twist that chassis apart in a long run. Don't think its practical enough to go for something like this. I would any day prefer an hybrid K04 turbo than anyother, its designed to give more amount of torque than the Bhp.

Some interesting articles I have come acrossed with, must read: Audi A4 1.8T Tuning Guide - Audi-Sport.net
