Palio Stile 1.6 Engine Mods

I would like to soup up a Palio Stile 1.6, to make it quicker and faster. I do not plan to do any mods on the body or interiors. I would still need to use it as any everyday driver. Any ideas guys.
I do not want to make it a Speed run car so no outlandish ideas please!!!

Well, What is your budget? If it is around 30k, I Strongly suggest a Cam Change along with the Standard Filter and Exhaust Changes. Piper has a Bolt on cam for the 1.6 for around 16-18k or something if i remember correctly.

Can you give me more details on the Piper Cam? Any link to confirm that it is "Bolt on" should help a lot.

Thanks.

Here is what I have done so far:

Iridium plugs
K&N replacement filter (I am having some idling rpm fluctuations so I might revert to a stock filter)
Automech exhaust with custom made SS muffler
Mobile 1 synthetic engine oil
Mobile 1 full synthetic gear oil
Removed the back seat to lighten up the car.

I too would be interested in a performance cam if such a thing is actually available.

@ MF...

I will ask Anant of N1 Racing. He did have one in stock. Basically, it is the Stock Came mountings but the Lobes have a different angle. I have heard that they are really good. Do ask Varun more about the car with the Piper Cam that he drove.

Im interested in the cams as well.
This is what i found out on piper's website for the fiat twin cam 1.6 engine.Dont know whether the engine is the same as the one that we get here.
Piper Cams frames page

EDIT:The link isnt showing the exact page.So click on can catalogues, and select FIAT from the drop down menu.Though the drop down menu isnt working so type F,and press GO.
Look under Twin cam 1.6.

Here is what I have as a plan to mod my 1.6 as well to make it a sleeper car. (This is the broad outline and will get it done over time)
  • Air Intake (Done: Green Storm CAI)
  • Exhaust FFE, a low end setup with absolutely NO loud noise
  • Porting & Polishing
  • Piper CAM
  • More stiff suspension (Not sure which one)
  • Improved Braking (Not sure which brakes)
  • RD ECU
This should hopefully get enough juice out of the 1.6 mill to put a smile on the drivers face.

Total budget over time: 50-60K

Cheers,

Has anyone shaved the head to increase compression?

I discussed this with the head mechanic at the authorized service center, and he said that there is very little clearance with the 1.6 engine and the piston might hit the head if any shaving is done.

I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has actually done this and get some advice before trying to attempt it.

Also, if anyone has some used pistons or camshafts lying around from an engine overhaul, I would like to get my hands on them. I could take a piston back to the U.S. and source a high compression piston. The camshafts could be re-ground by a machine shop over there.

Thanks,

I feel palio engines are best left alone, if anything goes wrong, be ready for a large bill and looong days at the garage. Max u need is a FFe and intake

The head was shaved ported and polished on my S10. I ran close to 10k on the same without any issues. The power diff was amazing if you ask me.

Will try out the RD ecu first thing after I am back in india

Great to know that buddy. Where did you get your stuff done and by how much was the head shaved?

Did you find the stock suspension & brakes sufficient to handle the extra power?

Also, does someone know the 'technical number' of the 1.6 engine (The one in GTX/S10), Like we have BA16's GA etc etc..

I remember the JBL demo Palio being a hoot to drive inspite of all that heavy ICE at the back. I think it had oversize pistons plus some work on that engine too. Maybe you should contact Sam for further details. That by far, is the fastest GTX I have driven in my life.

Cheers,
Yup, that's the way to go for your sleeper. However I'm not too sure about the budget. From the quotes I got from some pro tuners, a professional porting and polishing job alone will set you back by 25-30,000 bucks, add an RD ecu and you've almost exhausted your budget.

From what little I know, the list you have mentioned will need at least 80,000-100,000 bucks if done professionally, maybe more.
