Somewhere I have, or had, a pair of photomicrograph polarising sunglasses
That should, of course, be photochromic. Not looking properly when using the spell checker.

You don't recommend using sunfilm on the front windshield if we are doing night driving?
Even glass gets scratched. Usually on the outside, eg by grit under the windscreen wipers. If, with age and cleaning, our windscreen sunfilm develops small scratches and swirl marks, they may be invisible in the day, but will really show up and distract (like the scratches in the glass) at night.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

It seems there are only 2 good options (after going through topics on the forum) for the front windshield:

1. Garware Icecool Shield
2. 3M CR 70

I am still not able to figure which one is better and offers better visibility. Can people also post prices of the same in different cities? And does the Garware Icecool Shield have any specific model number as such?

I have the CR 70 on the windshield in my Liva. There is no adverse impact on the visibility both during day and night. There film works wonders and cut down the heat significantly.

Sadly I cannot source 3M in Raipur. How much did you pay for it in your city?

Also my dealer here is asking me to go for Garware Arctic Cool instead of Ice Cool. This is very confusing and Garware has three models in Ice Cool Shield (40,70,80) and I cannot see Arctic Cool on their site.

Have used Garware Arctic Cool version for Windshield on my mother's Liva. It's good and is supposed to be better than Ice Cool shield. Garware claims a heat rejection of 57% for the arctic cool version.

Actual TSER ( the globally accepted standard for heat rejection ) should be somewhere around 48% ( 3m CR 70 has a TSER of 50% ). For the ice cool shield, it's only 40%
This particular film is not listed on their website because their website is obsolete! Do ensure that the arctic cool version that you are going to buy has a VLT of atleast 70%

amalji - can you let me know where you got it done - and how much?
Also - someone mentioned that there is an occasional problem of leaks in some cars. Is this true - and does it mean they take out the windscreen to apply this on?

It costed us Rs. 5,200/- ( team-bhp price ). We got it done from Car Shoppy, Pongumoodu, Trivandrum. If you are planning to get it done from Trivandrum, this is a good option.

But, if you are planning to get it done from Cochin, you can get 3m's CR70 for Rs. 5,000/- from Automate Car Accessories ( near to Chevrolet and Stanley showroom in Vytilla - Palarivattom NH Bye-Pass ) which is a real cheap buy. 3m's authorized dealers in Cochin charge Rs. 6,100 for the same film. And in other parts of the country, it is sold at Rs. 7,700/- and above

With regards to the leak issue, there is nothing like that. Windshield film is not going to cause any leaks whatsoever.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

Thanks amalji! Taking the car to Trivandrum may not be possible so I'll check out Automate like you suggested. Actually the leak issue was mentioned by someone connected with Pete's. Good to know that this is not a problem.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

Garware Ice Cool cost us Rs 2400 for the front wind shield. Fitted the same on my friend's bolero and getting the same for my esteem this week. The shop doesn't fit it, an expert from Garware comes to fit the same.

I suggested garware in trivandrum only because 3m CR 70 is not available there right now. And even if it becomes available, it won't be as cheap as you get it in cochin.

3m cr70 is one if the best sun control films available and your decision to go for it is indeed the best option. :-)

Got Garware IceCool Shield installed on the Sumo also. Neat job, as with the Ikon.

Hello, I had installed a 3M CR 70 on my Skoda Laura front windscreen 2 years ago. Paid Rs:7750 , still the same cost. Just a little doubt. Recently when I was travelling from Bangalore to Trichy, somewhere just after Dharmapuri, a lorry that was parked on the left, with out any indication just took it out on the main track. I braked hard. My 3 year daughter was standing on the front seat, she hit the windscreen with her chin, and the windscreen cracked. God luck, nothing happen to my child. Question is? Is the windshield so week, or is it that it cracked because of the sun film. Will post a pic now. Got it replaced under insurance though, total bill was around Rs: 17208, insurance paid, Rs: 14885, had to pay the rest and also pay another Rs:7750 for the sun film.
