Off-topic for this thread: I am not able to picturise water below the carpet and using WD-40 to make the water run-off. Or may be it was a precautionary spray. May be this point can be discussed on the WD40 type thread.
Yes, on the 19th of July it rained very heavily here and water got into the car so I removed the carpet and after removing all the water and wiping with towels, sprayed wd40 on the floor to prevent any rusting. I guess I should have aired the car out more.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

Having had sunfilm on the front windshield for so long, I had pretty much taken it for granted / not realised how much difference it makes to reduce the incoming heat.

I often leave my phone on the dashboard of the Storme, and have never had any issues. Last week, I was in another car, and as a habit, kept my phone on the dash.. Could have been about 10 minutes or so, I picked up the phone to make call - the phone had "frozen" due to overheating, asking me to wait till it cools down.

"While a phone would not heat up so much if we had been driving or we had been using the a/c, this incident did give an indication of the heat reduction that happens when sunfilm is applied."

btw, this was the first time that any of my phones has overheated.

Note:
Not discussing here about Opinions that some folks have about "visibility issues during night driving". I have been seeing certain advantages, and I have not found issues in the visibility part at night, and sharing my experiences here.

Aren't Delhi and Gurgaon traffic police cracking down on private cars that have a sunfilm on the windscreen? Please check before getting an expensive film installed, only to find yourself haggling with the traffic police to let you go.

i am under the impression that CR70 is a transparent film and should not be a problem.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

CR 70 is not transparent, it does give the glass a shade of green, that is why I mentioned STEK Action 80, the film is literally transparent. One cannot make out even when you are standing extremely close to the car!
Find a reputed dealer who sells genuine stek window films and see for yourself!

Will go and get a picture of my car to give you a refrence!

Absolutely not.

Well... define transparent! The film is literally transparent, in that one can see through it. But it is not clear.

As to clear, that is to say, completely invisible films that give genuine, effective protection from the glare and the heat of the sun, I don't know that they actually exist?

ssjr0498 just mentioned "STREK." I had not heard of it before.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

I took a quick look at the STREK site and noticed that they make an exterior film for car glass, effective at preventing small nicks and scratches in the glass.

Would you mind sharing the total cost for getting this done? Which auto shop did you visit in Bangalore?

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

I also remember a brand called Huper Optik which used to be recommended as a good alternative to 3M/Llumar a while ago, but it seems to be no longer available in India. Does anyone know in case it is being sold again now by any chance?

BTW, I have been using 3M CR70 on front windscreen for over 15 years. It is not fully transparent, it gives the glass a greenish tint as many have said. No cop has caught it so far though one can notice it if seen carefully. Heat rejection is pretty good and there is no visibility issue even at night. I had to cut it to fix RFID tags though, otherwise they wouldn't work reliably.

I think Garware is the best VFM brand. I have used 3 Icecool shields with 50% heat rejection.

For side and rear glass.

You can see the color difference of Icecool shield when I got the windscreen changed recently(after 10 years).

LLUMAR is a pathetic brand. I couldn't get Garware for my Brezza and settled with Llumar. this is the condition after just 2 years. These are photos I clicked last year and the current condition is much worse.
