Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

I earlier had sun film on my polo. But once near india gate i was pulled over by traffic cops and they removed the sunfilm. I even told them it's a heat resistant film but they just don't listen.

Hey fellow Jeeper. I got 3M CR70 for front windshield, side and rear done from Modern Beauty Cars which is right opposite to Sathyam Cinemas ticket counter. I got quotations from couple 3M franchisee outlets as well, but Modern Beauty Cars price was about 20% less (approx).

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

I've gone to get the Garware Ice Cool for my new Baleno windshield but the dealer only had Garware Arctic Cool. He claimed it was a superior model and I have gone ahead with it.

However the view is distorting a bit - wavy life effect on the drivers side of the windshield. It is not so much that it will endanger my driving but it is very much present and bugging me. It has been 2 days so far. Is this expected initially and will it resolve by itself?

One thing I regret is that the film is bluish. Greenish shade would have looked more premium.

I have had the green shade Ice on my Storme, and it is been good even after 9 years.

Before the installation, did you check the specs of this one before you agreed for the installation ? Do you have a warranty card ? If yes, try and get it replaced.

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

When I got sun control film fixed on my sunroof a couple of days ago the guy tried to get me to have the windshield covered too. However, when I told him it was against the RTO rules he assured me that the film for the windshield was permitted etc. etc. I didn't believe him and refused his advice, however, does anyone here know if there is any truth to his assurance?

3M CR70 is absolutely clear film and helps cut glare and UV. Being absolutely clear it will not be noticeable. However, ANY film, strictly speaking, is illegal in India as of now.
I had it on my Thar and have had it on my earlier cars too. It costs about 9000-10000. And I always felt that it helps in AC efficiency etc.
My Thar windshield cracked a month ago owing to a stone hit but while I replaced the windshield I didnt replace the film basis various pieces of advice on our forum here.
I have driven the Thar on the highway twice since and I am not feeling the lack of that CR70 film at this moment.
But it is winter now. I may sing a different tune in summer.

Every detailer who deals in sunfilm says so. Accessories stores will sell you horns and bumper mounted lights saying the cops won't bother you. All of them are lying. It is easier to get away with some than others, that is all.

Remember, they check more extensively these days to see if everyone is wearing seat belts, so they do see through your windshield for sometime. If your front windshield has tint to an extent where the cops can clearly see you, they may not bother you. That is a big may. Depends if the cop had a nice meal before coming out, had a fight at home or their yearly targets are being met or not. Last few weeks the cops in Bangalore have disappeared from the checking points, the target's are all done I am assuming.

Tints on windows are taken very seriously by Bangalore cops; whenever you enter the city from outside, you see them planting nice little traps for the smaller town cars who generally get away with tints in their hometowns. You run some risk by installing them, but the call is totally yours. I personally don't like any modification that can be picked up by a cop because it utter nuisance, especially when you're not in your own state and the language is a barrier.

No, it isn't. If I remember correctly (I had it on my previous car) the 70 means 70% of light passes, 30% of light is blocked. It absolutely does have a light tint and is not clear.

I would agree that it is light enough to escape casual notice. I'm sure cops would be able to see seat belt, etc, through it, and would not notice it unless, for some reason, they were actually checking.

I would love to have it on my current car, but it is too expensive to risk having to tear it off!

Re: Front windscreen sunfilm?

Has anyone tried Solargard - Ultra Performance Plus 80 for the front windshield? I've got a quote that's almost 40% cheaper than 3M.

I would also like to know this if anyone has more information on this.

The quotes I have so far for Kia Carens in Kochi, Kerala (all glasses full 4 sides). I didn't want to mix and match films with different grades because of the slight variation in shade color.

Rs. 23k for Saint-Gobain Solar Gard Ultra Performance 80 (claimed 10 year warranty).
Specs for Solar Gard UP80
UV - 99%
IR - 90%
TSER (Total solar energy reduction)- 45%
Glare reduction - 15%

Rs. 34.5k for 3M CR70 (I forget it now, but I don't think there is one). CR70 anti-glare on front and back, regular CR70 on the sides is what the manager at 3M Car Care told me.
Specs for 3M
UV - 99.9%
IR - 97%
TSER - 50%
Glare reduction - 23%

So Solar Gard is around 35% cheaper for me.

Also, V-Kool (VK70) which had slightly better specs than 3M CR70 was around Rs. 55k.

That is a lot of money, imagine how many road trips vacations etc. This piece of plastic film has 10 year warranty because it sits inside the vehicle protected by the actual glass that comes from the factory

In the meanwhile here is something to watch, its about the greenhouse effect.
