@Ricky: Gr8 you started the thread..

Though I'm no way near the technical aspect of such chop job but having seen it done on mine, just wanted to enquire few things from you..

Turning sedan to a hatchback means full rear redesigning(I believe) including the basic frame work, is it viable?? Not to include making custom rear glass for the same..

Modded SX4

Ricky,

Few weeks ago, I'd done subtle mods to the SX4 sedan using Adobe Photoshop. Hope you like these. These are very much doable in real life. And note that I haven't done any extensive lowering to the car. I think you can put the money saved in not doing the hatch conversion to other uses.

And these are just subtle mods. Imagine the same car with SX4 rally livery. BTW, Suzuki has pulled out of WRC. :(

The WRC car also has a wide body kit that gives it the mean look. Regular sx4 hatch looks so--so.

You will lose a little bit of torsional rigidity but its not something to worry about. You can always use a rear strut brace if required.

@salil
Thanks for the photoshopped SX4, sure looks nice !! I like the re-designed rear BUT the way the stock endcan of the SX4 is (parallel to the bumper) I think it may show & look ugly. That aspect needs to be addressed. Not a big problem I think.

@mehul
The viability of doing the conversion is what I have wanted to know from Arush or anybody who understands bodywork

@mpower
I agree with the strut brace bit, that will help, but in this case we are also extending the roofline, changing the rear door structure, hence my concern

Thanks all for the inputs

Cheers

I believe that sedan to hatchback convertion will be a lengthy and costly affair.. Plus I believe reducing the boot to minimum like the option used to come with Accent viva could be more possible to do..

@ BBS: Can we get such a photoshop job??

I am sure what you are saying makes sense. Afterall you are the FIRST one to do such a daring mod on your car !!

If you don't mind can you PM me the cost of your conversion ?

Cheers

Why insist on a chop job... just TC'ed it and let it be a sedan only.

Simply because I am not a great fan of the Indian version of the SX4, but am a fan of the WRC version which happens to be a hatch or notch back

Here it is, with the accent viva type boot. And i guess, this is much more feasible and would not mess with the structural integrity.
