Thanks Suren. Well its fabricated with 18 gauge and 16 guage aluminuim sheet. 12 thick aluminium flanges are used as end plates.
Rest is basic machining and sheet metal fabrications!
Cheers

awesome mate nikki i had this in mind for my accent viva too but i chose to buy the Green cotton storm kit instead back then as i lacked time and Good Help(lathe guys), well if my fiber glass kit should go kaput i will definitely resort to this.

this is good inspiration, and i am kind of a DIY guy too so lets see what the future holds

three cheers for the the JOB and AWESOME finish!!!

just curious , metal enclosure means that it will conduct heat right ?

Will that be a problem? I mean, its is supposed to be a Cold air intake.

Would some thermal insulation help ?

This factor was major and considered during the planning stage. The reason to select aluminium is to tackle the heat around the casing. Aluminium will cool off quickly by the running air. Thermal insulation and much more stuffs would have been required incase if it was made in steel, which will hold heat for a long time!!
Have checked the heat on casing after a long / short run. Everything fine as of now.

The OE filter on this truck is a huge black steel canister (about twice the size of the ACKNE). Aluminium will cool off faster, plus this has the advantage of cold air coming in from the grille.

Therefore this can only be better than OE.

Dont know if anyone will respond here, considering its more than a year old.
However,lets have a crack.
Would it be possible to get a length of heat resistant ABS pie, cap it off with aluminium, and produce a similar DIY for an air filter enclosure?
