agree: stick to technical talk and stop this masala distribution.
It IS Monday evening for most of us, and we still have some more time at work, before "According to Jim/Jill/Jack" show.
Thanks

No I don't. They were all new faces. And I assume they were the RS guys. Infact, I still don't even know the name of the black RS owner.

And what are you talking about boycotting the Yelagiri drive? We were all there as promised. Were we not? Yes we reached late but we were there.
|
Vikram, I guess you have a very short memory. You called up every person you knew and asked them to boycot the meet and you even told me that you guys didn't come for the TBHP meet but you guys came just to enjoy. I don't need to prove this, because many BHPians are a witness to this fact. Atleast I don't go around advocating such stuff and promoting groupism.
Ok, to make up for going off topic, some thing on the topic.
We did some testing with the RD ECU on brraj's car last day. That when coupled with the Petes box felt GOOD. The RD ECU was adjusting the rail pressure, while the PSI/Petes box was doing it's regular job of widening the injection pulses. I will leave it to RD guys if they want to elaborate on how the whole scheme works...
Hopefully, we will get to do some vbox testing soon, if the RD guys are willing. Either ways, it should be faster than before, and hopefully, wont blow up either. :)

We can do the Vbox testing this weekend? I am eagerly awaiting to see the results.

Need to hit Kerala this weekend. Please test if possible, and let me also know.
I need to pick up one if that works. :D

Why use the 2 in tandem? I didnt even know you could do that. Cant the ECU itself do the job of widening the injection pulses? Anyways, if it does work out in making the car go faster without melting the turbo and the exhaust:D.. thats great news for tuning box users like me.
Does the ECU raise the rail pressure, or decrease it? or can it do both?
There was some mention of the RD ECU complicating things on the brraj's elantra before this thread was shunted into the bushes, Can we know what the issue was?
PS- you guys used the stock ECU+rd ECU+tuning box?!!!!
How? I have not actually seen the RD ECU, so dont know where things get connected, but would love to find out more.
How much does the fuel pump cost in an elantra? Also- I'm still waiting for some suggestions on a reliable,VFM EGT gauge/pyrometer
@tadu- will you be visiting cochin by any chance?

Rajeev I am also keenly waiting to see the results. :thumbs up Tadu I will also make sure buy one & join my buddies.

GUYS - GIVE IT A REST! :Frustrati
We can clearly see two camps here - please take it elsewhere!
'I' am 'yet' to see a successfully modded - RELIABLE - daily driver. And neither have I seen any of the tuners willing to stand by their builds (as in standing guarantee / paying for the screw ups!). In the absence of both I think Raj is going about this the best way possible !
This is a thread about Raj's build - lets talk only about that! And while we are on the subject - he is free to take his advice from anyone he chooses to - lets not try and prove anything / discredit anyone here! (and if one goes post by post its clear who 'started' it!)
Share knowledge/information - lets keep people/personalities out of it! EDIT : @ Vikram D -
White smoke out of the engine bay - that sounds like serious damage - are you sure the engine is fine after all that? Admire your courage in driving back in it! |
Ok ... I would like to clarify my post (For the sake of record ONLY )
1. We can clearly see two camps here - please take it elsewhere!
Sorry Keshav - but I found ALL your posts going in one direction only - needling Mclaren. And that is MY opinion and is reinforced by that fact that both you and esp VikramD start your posts with statements that are clearly sarcastic. I feel, despite the obvious and sustained provocation Mclaren was very gentlemanly in his replies!
2.'I' am 'yet' to see a successfully modded - RELIABLE - daily driver. And neither have I seen any of the tuners willing to stand by their builds (as in standing guarantee / paying for the screw ups!). In the absence of both I think Raj is going about this the best way possible !
And what is wrong with that ?
Please read the entire para - and not one sentence in isolation. I have gone to extraordinary lengths to clarify/qualify my sentence using the apostrophes - I personally have not SEEN a single reliable modified car
YET. (Fact A)
And I have also not come across a single tuner who takes any kind of responsibility or gives any kind of warranty for his work
(FACT B)
AND IN LIGHT OF BOTH OF THESE FACTS, Raj is going about it in the best way possible - baby step by baby step!
Now why would/should this irritate you Keshav?
Farhan - Your Mivec, and your contribution to rescuing another Mivec from dying at hands of the 'dubious cartel' are both well catalogued. I never knew you added a 2nd one to your garage though!
I will take you up on your offer the next time I am in Chennai!
Farhan, Ford Rocam and any others out there - You are enthusiasts and have experimented successfully with your own cars, money and time! You have my complete respect. In addition there may also be successful 'commercial' tuners elsewhere. I was trying to drive home the last point only (with relevance to Raj's car!)
now the last point you raised...

Keshav - it was not a 'smart-alec' remark - IT IS THE
TRUTH! I am sorry if you did not like it.
(A little OT - but some wise man once said 'never ask the question if one is not prepared for the answer - whatever it may be!')
I again request lets stick to Raj's build. I am particularity interested in this for three reasons
1. I will be getting an Elantra soon and am seeking information on improving its performance 'safely'. (Advance paid!)
2. Since it does all the things it does (handling, speed, acceleration, braking et all) with the minimum interference to the engine, and with brilliant FE to boot!
3. This seems to be the most reliable mod (petrols included) that I have seen - in BANGALORE:) , considering Satya car has been running with all this for over 20k + kms - without a single issue, however negligible! And I am told the
car sees the redline in every gear most of the time - and not just on drives. Dare say my respect for Mclarens knowledge has increased after this (- considering he has been involved with, and responsible for these mods in this car, right from the beginning)

Hi KB100,
There are quite a few turbo charged cars, engine swapped cars & some with both which are running very reliably in Mumbai from quite a while. Mine for eg has a extreme swap with a turbo which has had no issues in the past 1.5 years approx except for the very recent turbo failure caused by a pinched oil line reducing oil supply to the turbo.
That has nothing to do with the build or the tuner/installer and can happen anywhere in the world.
Am sure like Farhaan there would be some more very reliable builds existing as well around India.
Viper
PS -Am not referring to any remapped or Electronic upgrades but hardcore worked on cars that are reliable.
If it didnt go against the forum rules, I'd have a row of "frustration" smileys instead of this sentence.
Shall we please stick to discussing brraj's car?:Frustrati
It is such an interesting/mad project and I hope to learn a little from it.

Ripper, there are two ways of tinkering with the electronics on a Crdi engine. One is by injecting more fuel by widening the pulse width duration time which is what the Pete's does. Second way is to increase the rail pressure in a way such that the injectors feed in more fuel for the same pulse width duration. This is achieved by the RD ecu. By running them both in tandem, it will give us more fuelling (as upgrading injectors on a Crdi unit is quite a complicated process) and should really go well with the bigger turbo. But that would mean putting additional stress on the injectors, fuel rail and the fuel pump. These are the issues we need to figure out.

It can do both.

I wasn't around when the last time they tested the cars. This time I shall be there hopefully too see the car respond to different mods in various stages.

It has a single connector that gets connected to your fuel rail. The other end of the wire goes to the ECU. The ECU has a switch for different modes. So its simple plug and play.

The next step is to find out the costs of some of these parts.
Unlike most other tuners, we do not believe in just making claims. Thanks to RD gang all the testings will be done on a VBOX which is probably the most accurate thing that can measure acceleration, deceleration, roll on times etc that one could get their hands on in India.

What rail pressure does these CRDI engines runs from factory? & how much pressure does the RD ecu increases?
