If it is a genuine 98bhp (which I doubt) with the tuning box it will excessively smoke and long term destroy the turbo.

The Marelli ECU in the 1.3M-jet is a bit tricky to work with. To get to 98bhp safely a few more things need to be done. It will be addressed soon in the GP/Linea tuning guide.

Since you guys are discussing tuning boxes versus remaps, here's an interesting thread on pros & cons of the same : Diesel Tuning - Box or Remap?

Thanks GTO. One thing I have always wondered if tuning boxes increase both power and efficiency what stops car manufacturers from selling the car with the tuned settings in place??

Any comments?

Edit : Nevermind I think I found a relevant thread for my queries. Team-Bhp you never cease to surprise me!

AFAIK its reliability/emission norm/ FE stops manufacturer from tuning engine for higher power/performance!

Manufacturers look at the mass market and they have to tune car for FE but not performance! Also reliability is main concern, the engine parts/turbo might not provide life as good as stock tuning. We have heard about thick black smoke coming out of remapped/re-tuned cars.

So keeping all these factors in mind, manufacturers tune the engine accordingly!

@akshay1234,

Dude,

why not wait for Punto sportz so that you can remap/retune the VGT

Having mapped enough cars and my collegues too I can safely say that when clouds of black smoke come out of re-mapped cars the mapper is a bodger.

Also we never had a car using more fuel after mapping the ECU. In some case the car was going up to 15% further per tank load.

When mapped properly the engine life span as well as the gear box, drive shaft and turbo live span will not be reduced noticably. The weakest point might be the dual mass flywheel and the clutch.

The cars we have mapped between us are several thousands and are all done on a chassis dyno.

What I never would advise is to use plug and play technology, which includes generic maps that aren't adjusted to the individual car.

I am also looking forward to install petes in my punto.
rah1735, could you please post reviews in regards to acceleration and drop in FE or other adverse effects (If any).

So there's still no review of the box by a bhpian ?
How strange, I guess everyone's waiting for someone to be the first, if only I had the money, sigh!

^^ I don't think in India people at dealership even know that what is a tuning box. Most of the Fiat/Tata service centers don't even have a examiner.

what if the battery is disconnected n connected again prior t sending for service?
wouldn't that remove any signs of a tuning box from the ecu?

Are you sure about that ? My understanding was that buying a Fiat examiner was a prerequisite to becoming a Fiat service centre.

Not all Tata service centers are Fiat service centres.

That's what I was told by a Tata official during the recent Fiat service camp.

There is not a single 'working' scanner in Kolkata. Tried all the TATA-FIAT dealers & the ealier FIAT dealers. None of them own one. Heard that there is broken piece with one of them (Lexas Motors)

Sorry for going OT.
