Air is sucked in depending on the suction created by the pistons. A high performance filter will reduce the resistance to the flow of air inside. But how much of that resistance being freed up by a high performance filter vs a stock one, will translate to actual and practical performance increase is always a question mark. I have a K&N stock replacement on my Ikon, and have not tried the other ones. Though I wont vote for any one.

default air filter??

Hi guys...
this may b a little out of place
Planning to buy a new car...had almost paid the booking amount for Fiesta ZXi when i started thinking whether an ikon will also suffice...and help me save about a lakh! So opinions invited on this...

Sticking to the topic of the thread..
1.What are the default air filters on Fiesta or Ikon?
2.If its none of the ones mentioned here, how much difference does it make to the car performance?
3. is it advisable to replace air filters in a brand new car?
4. does air filter replacement also nullifies warranty?

PS: Do consider me an illiterate in matters concerning car specs et al.
But having joined TBHP...not for long

I think it wont be helpful if you run your on lpg, but yes it will be when you switch it over to petrol.
Stock airfilter sucks enough air to burn LPG, which is highly combustable if compared to petrol, density also matters, LPG is very less dense than petrol.
comments guys
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Where can I get Green Cotton filters in Hyderabad?

I called Mahavir auto from the contact given on Petes but I was told that the information has been given wrongly on Pete's & he keeps getting enquiries for them.

Remember we in India have a dusty climate. Look deeper into the above cited report and you will find that the performance filters trap far less of the dust - result higher engine wear.

I remember in the 1970's in the UK one of our technicians bought a high performance (twin carb) version of an Allegro, and wanted more juice out of it. The dealer advised him to remove the air filter and stretch ladies tights across the intake. I doe not think any of us will dare try this in India.

What we need is a filter which enhances performance in lower rpms as seldom do we take our vehicles to higher rpms. Whichever filter offers this kind of performance should be considered as the best. Many people do give emphasize on growl alone .

The volumetric requirements increase directly as rpm increases. So at low rpm it just does not matter. Just make sure you have an efficient filter, which may be the stock rather than a upgrade.

Voted for Green Filters. I had installed Green Filter and FFE and felt an increase in the torque at low rpms too. High increase in the mileage too.

i heard a lot about K&N but some of my race enthusiast friends say piper cross outperforms k&N and if u drive normally without much braking or accelaration fast it increases your fuel effeciency. BUt i am really confused as to whether the Filters Damage ur engine bcoz many of them have said this in the forum.

Guys,

Need help.
I have a 2000 Zen (Carb).

Automech free flow is on its way.
So thought it'd be a good idea to go for a replacement filter.

Could you please help me out which is the best make and model
and the cold air intake is it worth the extra money ?

Please help.......!!!

CAI will help you to take cold air ofcourse. It will help in summer times you know.
But it will cost you around 5-7k for zen.

But i'm not sure for air filters for carb.
