A CAI is useless unless you get proper plumbing / protection done. If you don't, it will only suck in hot air.

For minimum work, opt for a stock replacement filter. If you want to go the entire mile, then a true CAI.

FRK PERFORMANCE, Bangalore is the dealer, Speedworks in chennai. How expensive is the pipercross induction kit? I like the idea of the enclosed filter. Exposed filter is a pain expecially during monsoons and servicing.

eapen,
What is the price of K&N or Greens for Wagon R? I am planning to replace the stock filter in my wagonr.
And how much noticable difference did it make in your car (performance and fuel consumption)?

Thats a good price. Green Cotton replacement filters are in the 4K range. K&N and Green cotton are a few hundreds north or south.

Ok so the poll says K&N. But does anybody have any significant advantages of the other 2 over K&N???

Thus for city driving where u really rev the engine too much PC would be more advisable.

K&N would be more suited for racing enthusiasts.

Also the Panel PC filter is said to work best in mornings and evenings because of the cooler outside air...while conical PC filter works just as well irrespective of outside temperature...
Are you sure about the above???

I have to say the Green filters better because of thick rubber edges & cotton pores are smaller.

The K&N has thinner edges and bigger pores. Also noticed trails of dusty air on the inner rubber sides after 5000kms driving inspection. That shows the filter dosen't seal well on the edges with the stock air-filter box.

Since a stock car dosen't require too much free flow, I use a thin layer of sponge as a pre-filter.
which car are you using the K&N on ? the installation also matters i guess.

2) I also notice different shapes of K&N, what is the best suited for OHC
Vtec ?
3) I was told i also need to buy an intake manifold..etc along with the
filter, can someone throw light here ?

K&N vs Stock Filter

Ok chaps. Here's something I thought of and would like to share with you. Probably setting a cat among the pigeons.

My car's original stock filter (paper) = ~Rs 550
Mfrs recommended change interval = 40,000 km standard, 20K in very dusty conditions

K&N filter stock replacement for my car = Rs 5600 (!!)

My thoughts - I can replace my car's filter every 10k kms, way before it's replacement is due and do that 10 times over, in the process clocking up 100,000 kms for the price of 1 K&N. What do I get? Here's what:

a) Retain my warranty
b) A paper filter, when new, is always more efficient than cotton gauze soaked in filter oil.
c) Zero risk with oil fouling the MAF sensor in the intake manifold. Some owners claim that has happened to their cars.
d) Peace of mind that my baby breathes as freely as the mfrs intended her to.

What I do not get:
a) A supposedly more responsive free revving engine and questionable claims of more 'power'.

What option makes more sense?

Cheers!
