Guys,

From where to buy K&N filters for Bolero at Bangalore, any clues how much would it cost ?

Cheers,

Let me know the diameter of the pipe, I have one that I don't need anymore since I got ITBs, and it's from an OHC too.

how does such a setup increase low end torque ?

Short and fat intake pipes = Peak power high up the rev-range
Long and thin intake pipes = Peak power lower down the rev-range.

All to do with intake velocity.

Edit: It's a lot more than that, and law of diminishing returns applies, but this is the basic premise.

This is what makes the design process as much exciting as it makes it frustrating.

All to do with intake velocity is quite right.

Unfortunately many components are involvrd to get the intake velocity very high, but at the same time quantity needs to be supplied, which becomes with increasing rpm difficult. This is the reason why race engines use short intakes.

You can get the best of both worlds with rather complicated system and a good widening with a number of tricks, but all depends on the space available.

An important but often neglecting aspect is the shape of bends. If the radius is small in comparison to the diameter the gas speed will drop due to turbulence problems.

A bend of x degrees should be rather x+y degrees and then return by y degrees.

Tapers and venturis are evenly important and so is the filter mouth shape.

Filter medium is of great importance. I personally have never found pipercross of any advantage with their filtermedium. In all applications it lost power against stock.

Wow thats short & simple! So in the honda city, which makes power way up the revrange we need to boost its power and torque low down so that there is initial pickup and good drivability in city and for that a thin diameter pipes is required right! Then what about the reducing diameter funda?

What is the cubic capacity of the engine?

If you can reduce the diameter somewhere before (where ever possible) the throttlebody to about 50mm before you come back to the size of the throttlebody. If you wish to discuss this further, feel free to pm me a picture of the engine bay.

@pranavt, @CPH, @fastraj. How do you fit the long pipe onto a after market filter ? Any directions on this would be helpful ?

I am intending to buy a Green performance filter(round tapered) mainly with the intention to boost my low end rpm power.

By using silicone hose couplers like these
silicone hose coupler - Google Search

Secured using hose clips like these

Do you mean to say that the entire filter body i.e., if its a cylindrical one, the entire cylindrical portion goes inside the silicon hose that you have pointed and held firm with the horse clips ? If YES, then the whole filter will get covered and will it still have the benefits that it is supposed to deliver ?

I am a noob here, so dont mind if its too silly :P

No, the filter will not be covered by it, just the throat of the filter which connects to the intake pipe. The hose clips are around 2 inches in length and hold the edge of the pipe and the throat of the filter (covered by hose) in place.

so is there any recommended Filter model having the smallest diameter for the intake pipe that should logically increase the low end RPM power ?

Thanks

What are the internal and external diameters of the throttle body? If you don't know the answer, and assuming your car is an Aveo, contact wildchild4lyfe. I think he would have the answer to this question.
