dark tint means Visible light transmission (VLT) is lowest.
I think 5% is the lowest.

Normally films are rated with VLT, so 3M CS35 means 35% light is passed through inside. CS5 means only 5% is allowed inside.

Neo, answers in bold within your message below. am no expert, but I have nothing better to do right now.

I have shortlisted 4 films (rates for whole car except front windshield):
Normal - 3M SP35 : Rs.3000
Premium - 3M CS35/RE35 : Rs.4800

Normal - Llumar SR35 silver series: Rs.2200
Premium - Llumar SR35 platinum series: Rs.7500

Questions:
1) Whats difference between 3M RE & CS series? Which is better?
I think RE is metallized & CS is not. Metallized films block cellphone/GPS reception? - CS is more advanced - much better quality. I have CS70 for the front windscreen and RE50 for the sides and no issues so far. Am I satisfied? My expectations were V-Kool level.

2) The premium films look a lot lighter than the normal films. Though both have VLT @ 35%. Does this mean that premium 35 film = normal 50 film and going for premium film will be in line with RTA rules?

Hell no. Stick to the 50 rule. 35 is banned. Period.

3) Some people have reported that the sunfilm on rear-windshield seems to diffract light and you will see 20 headlights for 1 car! How to ensure that this doesnot happen?

Depends on installation. I hate it on the rear screen because of the rear defogger getting screwed because of incompetence. So I avoided it and I have no complaints.

4) Is a Warranty card provided with installation. Also what will be the terms of warranty?
Yes it is. Ask for a warranty card with detailed terms and conditions. Ask to see it before you bargain on price.

Thanks Redliner.
Do you have CS-70 or CR-70 for front windshield? There is no CS70 listed with 3M. CR-70 is advanced nanotechnology based and is damn expensive too.

Here are specs from 3M website:
CS Series Specs
RE Series Specs

Looks like RE is way better than CS in terms of Total heat rejected (TSER).
I am now inching towards RE35 or RE50.

But only concern is RE is a metallized film, so will it cause a problem with cellphone/GPS reception ?

Ah Sorry - error. I meant CR - Crystalline Series. Thats what I got for the front. For my Scorp - front CR 70 plus sides RE 50 came upto 10k all inclusive. So far I have had no issues with my cell phone reception.

Thanks, I don't think I'll go for the darkest available. Maybe 15-20%? Is there a brand of film that minimises visibility from outside, but has reasonably good visibility from inside? I don't want to be blind in the night!

carbon sunfilm

I have installed carbon sunfilm for my esteem, it came to 1650/- for the rear and 4 windows.

Was that a good option? I don't find reference to carbon sunfilm on this site.

What I read in Hindustan Times (NCR Edition) was 50% visibility for the sides and 70% visibility for the rear.

Is This 3M Warranty

I had installed 3M sun films from an installer in Koramangala. front CR 70 and sides and back RE 50. It was done last week and within three days the film near the top of driver side window slightly peeled off. I went to the installer and pointed out the problem. He said it is because of the beading being too tight and even if I install again it will peel off. He cut off the top end of the film were it had peeled off .
Is This 3M Warranty! Did anyone else had a similar problem and what was the solution offered?
I had paid 9.9K for the installation.

Hey folks nowadays most cars come with tinted glass and if you look at the rating, it mentions 75% Light transmission for the front windows and 70% Light Transmission for the side windows and back.

Now if on top of these tinted glass if i put a 70% VLT film wont that effectively reduce my VLT to 70% of 70% taking it down to 50%... making it illegal ??
