Hi, thanks for this thread.
I am asking my bro to bring it from US.
Is there any 220V version available?

And does this come with jump cables as well or should I buy them separately?

Thanks,
Anand

US you get only 110V version. Same products are sold in 220V in UK.

Push Start an Automatic

I was having a discussion with my dad regarding a new car to replace our NHC ZX VTec.

I suggested an automatic considering the daily running of car would be city area that too mostly busy streets.

So he came up with a question, is it possible to push start an automatic like we are able to do with a car with manual transmission

Is it possible to do it?
Thanks

Abhinav,
There is no way you can push start an automatic. The only way is to use Jumper cables (Connect your car battery to another car battery to start)

As mentioned previously there is no chance of getting it started unless you have jumper cables...

Stranded in an AT

I have been stranded on the highway when my battery died on the highway (Civic-AT). Had to wait for over two hours till the mechanics came with a battery and jump started.
Drove straight to buy a new battery!

I am yet to buy cables for jump-starting myself. So next time I can ask help from passing vehicles and do it myself.

But then it seems jump-starting must be done in a proper way else you risk an accident. (There are instructions in my car manual itself or lots of it from the web).

While we talk about push starting, I came across the warning written in my i10 manual that one should never push start any car with a catalytic converter for the risk of damaging it.
Any light on this?

But that's not exclusive to AT cars, most MPFI and CRDI MT cars cannot be jumpstarted if the battery goes dead, if there is some charge left its a different case altogether.

When my Accent MT's battery died some years back, i tried very hard to push start the car but i failed.

The Stanley jump-starter which i bought has worked great till now. During weekend i started my Dad's Santro which had been in shed for 1 month due to drainage work in-front of the house in home town. Since i carry Jump-starter under back seat of my city for all long drives it came into use again. It was a one minute job, now a days if battery goes down, its nothing for me. Earlier it used to be always in mind, what to do if battery stalls.

Otherwise it would have been, calling the battery guy, and get it done paying him Rs 250, and waiting 1 or 2 hours for him.

The same stanley jumpstarter has smaller version selling 300 Amps jumpstarter in ebayglobal mine is 500 Amps, costs around Rs 4500 including shipment.

Global Easy Buy

Jump Starter

Got this jump starter from Singapore. The build quality is great, and it is very compact in size. Cost 5000/- INR.

Have already used 3 - 4 times and works great and starts the car in a single crank.

Comes with a car charger, wall charger separate.

Archie, the Jump starter looks cool and compact. Hope it servers you lot.

Swami, You can have a look on this ebay page where all Jumpstarters are listed. Stanley is also listed but listed one is 300 Amps, mine is 500 Amps.

Global Easy Buy

Also you can look for www.shopyourworld.com , these people are most popular now with lower shipping charges compared to any others. This one is priced at 5600 including shipping.
