Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

Somebody in my colony hit my zen with his car, must be a SUV, while the car was parked at home. Bonet had a dent, front bumper and number plate was broken too

Got the repairs done..

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

Nothing as such to do with mods but I have a question. On comparison with a newer Alto manufactured around 2008, I felt that the body panels and metals sheets are thicker in my 2002 Zen. The metal on the Alto felt really thin & feeble. Has anyone else felt the same?

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

Forget the Zen, it was a premium hatchback of its time and has much better build. My 2000 M800 has better and thicker panels than the Alto 800. In my MASS, an Alto had come up for denting. You wouldn't believe but the panel tore when subjected to slight force and heat-Thats weak it is!
For that very reason now a days the local MASS prefers and encourages to replace a panel as a whole rather than repairing it.
Maruti's build has severely gone down. They have rightfully earned the title of a tin can.
Alto when it was launched had a pretty solid build, but it has gone down with time.

Guys I have seen, center locking in which when you lock or unlock the car horn is used a siren, which sounds cool.

My neighbor's Vento has a similar remote locking system. Must be a factory fitting. I know it because of the VW/ Skoda specific horn sound.

Some food for the idea: What if one replaces the central lock alarm hooter with a regular horn?

Yea, I saw the same in a Polo, I checked with a big accessory shop in Delhi, he said, if the horn is attached with centre locking, every time you sound horn, it will affect the center locking circuit and the doors will be locked and unlocked.. will malfunction in short..

Polo and vento he said comes with that OE fitting.

And if instead of siren if you use horn, wont it sound bad while buzzing?

For that we can use a separate horn, but your other point is correct.

Yes, you are right. It can sound really funny. However, I have not heard the siren (or horn) sound when my neighbor reverses his Vento. Probably it is not made to sound while reversing the car.

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

Changed spark plugs and plug wires today. Car was giving trouble of starting in the morning, lack of power in cold engine while accelerating.

Some body told me it was fuel pump which was misbehaving, found out it was old spark plugs and damaged wire.

Spark plugs are NGK brand and MGP wires.

Car runs smooth now and pick up is improved too.
