Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

14 is not bad for a car that has more than 70k kms. my zen has also neared the 70k kms mark. today i got the stock tires changed to michelin xm1+ and i must say it was a good decision coz ride has improved tremendously or it may be due to prev mrfs that were over their lifetime.

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

Michellins XM1+ are all season tires they really perform good......Don`t go for hankook and kumho they are not good...they will last for 30-40k...stick to michellin and one more thing change your alloys dude, they are not going with your car...

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

@venom: whats an ideal tire upgrade for a zen in 13" ?? 175/60/13 ? i want 13" tires those doesn't touches the car under body with 5 people traveling..next tire would be bridgestone if not hankook or kumho..

moving to bigger tires on zen is a big issue, as there is not much space in wheel bay, 6 months back I changed to 155/65 13 Michelin xm1+ along with 5.5J (may be we need 5J but except for aura I don't think there are any other in this size) veloche alloys, which I thought were perfect and wouldn't touch any where, I was so wrong. Even with 4 people, the rear fender scrapes the side walls more than to our liking on even on slightest uneven roads. For this the only way out is spacers on rear, but I opted not to. below is the pic of my upgrade. Now on Michelin name/logo there are line of rear fender

but overall feel factor has improved immensely when compared to stock

Re: My Zen LXi wth some Basic Mods

@skyliner: lol and sorry buddy..if 155/65 13 is touching the car's rear body, shall I get a wider tire in 12" ? 165/60/12 will decrease the ride height, which is not good..zen already has low GC ? or shall I stick to 155/70/12 with new alloys ? here in tbhp i have seen people with 14 and 15" rims on the same zen..This car is only driven by me (sometimes younger brother) and I have no plans to sell my car, I just want it to run smoothly..

if the requirement is only city driving with 2-3 people then 13-14 or even 15 (but it will kill the performance big time) will not be a problem at all, but if u decide to do frequent long runs with 4-5 people then it's a problem. I'm not sure about 12" profiles, may be you can pm nikhil or any other tire gurus here.

Nice wheels nick. Did you increase the height of the car? I'm planning to increase height and dont know what other than bigger tires.

Anything wider than 155 width in Zen's wheel well (pre-2005), will scrap.

The trick is not to use rim wider than 5j width. But in the market, alloys of 5j width are hard to find; everywhere it is 5.5 j.

For the last 52000 km, my car has been running on 155/65/13 on 5j width steel rims borrowed from Esteem, which has the same PCD of 114.3 mm. First, it was Michelin (lasted only 33k km), but now it is Bridgestone Turanza. This is the best combination for our roads as after the change, I have taken my zen to numerous tough terrains across northern states.

if it's only city with 3-4 then I guess 13-14" will do nicely
looking at the prototype of your mods, 12" would look out of place

here is nikhil <http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/members/nikhilb2008.html>
