Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Hi Folks

I have got my Thar a set of Hella Rallye 1000 series Black Magic lamps and I wanted to get some information on the lock nuts that I should be getting as well to get it some protection. Are there any specs that I should be watching out for when looking for these lock nuts? Some help here please.

Thank you.

Hi Red Liner,

Could you please tell where in Bangalore did you buy and get it installed. Is it mounted on the bumper or fabricated clamp?

Regards.

50FF's are way better than 500FF.
Hi akshay4587,

I am also planing to buy these lights, however price quoted (approx 10k) now is way higher than what it was in 2014.

Would you be able to share feedback about Hella 50ff after using these for over an year. Did you upgrade bulbs on these lights, I was not able to find higher wattage replacement for H7 bulbs.

Regards.

Couldnt find a H7 relay.
Being +25W over stock, these are working just fine.

A relay is not specific to a bulb. The relay (or cut-out as some call it) will help to provide the required current to the bulbs. While the +25 bulbs will work initially, still go for the relay.

Also look for ceramic holders if you can find some.

I am currently located in Pune and would anyone recommend a good mechanic whom I can entrust with getting my fog lamps installed?

Thank you folks.

Hi Red Liner,

Could you please help with another question about Hella 50FF. How are these mounted on the bumper? Have you installed these using steel bracket or bolted to plastic bumper. It would be great if you can post a picture of these lights installed on the bumper.

Regards.

Sorry, sold the car and don't have pictures. Remove the front bumper and cut holes in the air dam to fit the lamps. I also added a small clamp for each. This is for the Figo.

Take your car there. He is quite experienced to figure out the best solution.

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

I upgraded from Neolite 801 to hella 500FF 2 weeks back. Bought the set from USA, it costed around INR 3200 after all the thanksgiving discounts and a relative brought it to India.

The Hella Experience - 500 FF-dsc_0006.jpg
The Hella Experience - 500 FF-dsc_0007.jpg

Here are some pics of the light in action.

Focus: left light is focused towards the curb to highlight the pedestrian standing beside road and right one is focused 30-40 meter in front of the road to see the road condition ahead clearly even when blinded by oncoming high beams. Both lights won't blind oncoming traffic.

Bulbs : Philips bluevision H3, Rs 500 a pair.

Only low beam( note- the road is slightly inclined upwards)

Only High beam, middle position in leveling switch.

High beam + fog lights

The Hella Experience - 500 FF-img_20151229_185554.jpg

Only hella

High beam + Hella
The Hella Experience - 500 FF-img_20151229_185558.jpg

Low beam + Hella , now my preferred one for 2 lane roads.
The Hella Experience - 500 FF-img_20151229_185602.jpg

All photos are taken using a cellphone in automode, so don't compare the light output from the pics.

Issues
1. The hella's are slightly aligned to the left, it is giving a driving position discomfort. I am used to lights which are parallel to the direction of travel. But over a week of driving, the discomfort has been reduced to a great extend.
2. In Hella + High beam mode, the High beam seems very weak as eye is adjusted to the brightness of Hella. I may move back to the stock bulb to reduce the intensity of light.

Re: The Hella Experience - 500 FF

Does anyone have experience in using the Hella 60mm Low Beam projector module?

This is a standalone low beam projector, which takes in HB3 (65W) bulbs and produces a nice cut off. This means that it can be used all the time, unlike other aux lamps, which can only be used on the highways.

Another major plus point is that these are surprisingly cheap (~1300 for one).

The major unknown is how difficult they'd be to install on my Figo Aspire, without replacing the stock fog lamps.

from the looks of this, and the drawings that you have shared, it can be tricky. You will need a way to mount these using the mounting socket. If you use a mounting bracket, then where will you fix this bracket to ?

Also, the lamp is about 16cm long. Will be best to keep it inside and not completely protruding outside). If you want to do this, then you will need almost 20 cm of depth to mount it.
