Upgraded my Baleno's Tyres

I have a Baleno VXi and had stock alloys and 165/80 R13 Bridgestone tyres. I recently upgraded my wheels to Julien Racing 14" alloys. Also i upgraded from tube tyres to tubeless Michelin XM1 185/65 R14.

I did this change at Shiv Shakti Tyres in JC Road. Right next to CAR SHRINGAR. He bought all my stock alloy wheels and the worn out tyres (2 semi new (5000 km) and 3 old (atleast 40000 km)) for 5500.

I paid him as below
Michelin XM1 185/65 R14 tubeless - 4000 * 4 = Rs 16000
Julien Racing 14" alloys - 5 No = Rs 16200
Aligment and painting the drums and callipers = approx Rs 1300
Nuts for the alloys = Rs 1500

Totally it came upto 35000 and since he bought my old alloys and tyres for 5500 i ended up paying 29,500.

Can somebody tell me if the prices he sold me the alloys and wheels are ok and also are the michelins good. I had read here previously that the goodyear nct5 185/65 R14 is very good.

Thanks for helping!!!

The price deal for the new alloys and tires seem to be good. But I feel the deal for stock alloys and tires are priced a bit less. I had seen some used stock alloys in classifieds priced above your price range.
I was enquiring about Michelin for my car and got a feed back that except heavy steering wheel the ride will be very smooth and noiseless. But i haven't tried it personally.

Re: Tyre Upgrade for my Baleno

I have Michelin Energy XM1 185/65R14 Tires on my Baleno for the past 42k kms. I have also used Goodyear Eagle NCT5 in the same size for 26k kms. Michelins are better tires in terms of Ride comfort and Road Noise. The steering effort is lower too.

You made a good choice. I had to change my NCT5s after 26k kms because of excessive road noise.

Re: Tyre Upgrade for my Baleno

@BulZire - thanks for that, anyway my car reg date is november 2003 and its run 95000 Kms as of today. So basically my alloys were 7 years old. Would i have got anything more than 5500...how much were the old alloys being sold for in the classifieds?
And yeah the michelins feel really great...the steering has definitely got better and the ride quality is also much smoother than before. Havent tested the tire noise on the highway as its just been three days since i changed my wheels and hence havent got a chance to test her on the highway as yet.

@wanderernomad - Yes sir i will update the pics by this evening or latest by tomorrow morning.

@Buffetfan - Thanks for the clarifications about the goodyears as i have been thinking if i should have put the goodyears on instead of the michelins since the time i changed it. Cracked my head enough over it

Please post pictures of the alloys. You have got a good deal for the tyres.

Which year/model is your baleno? My understanding is that stock Vxi came with
185/65 R14 Tyres

Stock VXI came with Goodyear Eagle NCT5 185/65R14 tires and climate control only from 2006 onwards.

When I purchased my car in 2005, I ended up buying a Lxi as the only features better in Vxi were powered antennae, a ghastly silver finish centre console and a thousand spoke alloy design with puny 165/80R13 tires. Rounding up the differences were a Kenwood audio system and SGP spoiler.

So I ended up purchasing a Baleno Lxi, put in a 500 watt RMS system, 185/65R14 NCT5 tires with league alloys and an aftermarket spoiler in the same design as Vxi.

Loved my decision when Baleno VXi was launched with the same tire size and brand next year, Hated the NCT5s the year after as they became excessively noisy. Changed to Michelins and have been happy ever since.

Re: Tyre Upgrade for my Baleno

Hey all, sorry for the late reply...was travelling over the weekend and hence could not post the pics any sooner. But here they are...

@Mr Bean - My car is the Nov 2003 Model. There is no climate control in this model and yeah the stock tyres were 165/80 R13.

Re: Upgraded my Baleno's Tyres

I've replaced all my 5 alloys and tyres. Out of 5 3 tyres were almost bald and 2 tyres were in very good condition. They are apolo amazer and driven for around 6K Km.

Old Alloys were 4 years old.

Here is price list.
MIchelni xm1+ - 5100*5=25500
Alloys - 3300*5 = 16500
wheel balancing - 500
alloy nuts - 1200
spanner for new alloy nuts - 500
screw for air - 500

Purchased my old stuffs for 10K.
I had to 33K for all 5 new alloys and michelin XM+.
