I got a 90/100w philips rallye for my indica (Clear head lamps). Got it changed in Car shringar, Bangalore (opp lifestyle). Paid Rs 750 for bulbs, wires, relay and fitting. I'm going on a long drive to coimbatore tomorrow and i'll post whether the new setup makes any significant difference after the trip.

Went to a shop in Indira nagar to get my head light focussed using a focussing equipment. I feel the focussing has made a good difference. Will definitely suggest anyone to focus the headlights properly, it can make a difference.

Questions now :-)

1. Is Rs 750 a fair price ?

2. Is it 'absolutely' necessary to have a ceramic holder ? Searched three shops and no one seems to sell it. So I settled for a plastic holder based on the feedback from accessory shop.

3. How can I tell whether the bulb is original or not ? All these shops seem to have the philips and it says 'Made in Germany'. Is that what you get in India ?

4. Can anyone tell the comparision between philips rallye 90/100w and osram stellar 90/100w (I wanted Osram but all the three shops I asked said they have not heard of the name osram. Did not have enough time to find a Osram so settled for philips)

checked with few dealers here in Delhi for OSRAM SILVERSTAR. None has silverstar series, though one decent sounding guy (authorised osram dealer) told me that nobody asks for silverstar, no sales so no stock. he suggested me to go in for normal OSRAM 80/100 with a relay. Quoted me 300 for pair and 600 for relay.

do osram silverstar emit white light? is there a difference between silverstar and normal series? tanveer, can u help?

Silverstar light is slightly whiter than OEM, but not the kind of 4000/4500K white you get with Bluevision/Narva etc.,
Osram Silverstar is a 60/55W bulb which gives more light than normal 60/55W. It is competition to Philips Power2night range which is also 50%+ and not available in India.
Look hard. You will find solverstar too. If I could find silverstar in Ludhiana, I'm sure Noida Delhi etc., region will have many dealers.
You can call up their head office and find out the numbers of dealers.

Ok. Today i asked Mandovi in Bangalore if they could upgrade my swift's headlamps. Sagar had refused saying that it would void the warranty.

To my surprise, Mandovi not only agreed to do that, but also assured me that my car's warranty will not be affected in anyway.

I have been quoted 750 bucks for the relay, 90/100 bulbs (and hopefully fitting charges as well). THey use hella bulbs tho and not philips. Should i go in for hella?

Depends on which Hella they are giving you. I've been using Hella Gold's 100/90 for a few months now & have been very happy with the beam intensity & throw on highways.

I would probably not say its white light. It looks regular halogen light only. But it is lot brighter. Its good for a normal highway. But i still find it little inadequate when it come to dual carriageway

Folks, can anyone recommend a good garage who can install a relay for my car and upgrade to 100/90 in Pune ?

I went to Poona motors today, but the chap acts like he is doing you a big favor and is hardly even interested in explaining what he would do.

How good are Mico Bosch halogen lamps (100/90)? My stock 60/55 lamp has gone kaput and the garage guys replaced the lamps with the Mico lamps. costed me Rs. 150 a pair.

Bosch comes with a 30%+ range which is 60/55W.
With the 100/90 make sure you get a relay or you risk damaging your electrical system.

I have been trying to call their Gurgaon/Ghaziabad numbers but get "invalid number" message or no one picks up etc.

Finally located in Chennai:
A K International
No 114 G P Road
4th Floor
28601633.

He has it in stock but didn't ask wattage, price etc.

If any Chennai t-bhpian can check and report, it would be appreciated.

Gears,

Call up chandigarh, its closer than chennai.
I think the numbers have changed recently, and you have to add a 2 in front.

Got the headlamps changed from Mandovi. Total cost arnd 870 bucks. This includes harness, relay, bulbs. They installed phillips rallye 90/100W.

Light is better, spread is good. Now even if there is a vehicle comming on high beam from opposite side, there is still some visibility, esp the road divider if I am on the extreme right hand side.

On day one, When i was driving back, 1 indica and 2 santros who were on high beam promptly dipped when i flashed my lights on them (they were on high beam). Day two, no such luck. Four vehicles on high beam, none dipped when I flashed my lights.

Cheers
Ajay
