Re: Auto Lighting thread : Post all queries about automobile lighting here

Hey guys, I had a question.

A relative of mine recently installed a DRL setup and along with that installed projectors with HID (Chinese type) in A fluidic Verna. Now the light throw is not very bad but it's not good either. I was thinking if I could upgrade the HID bulbs to a better quality one while retaining the projector housing. Will that be possible and will I get a good light output? The cutoff as it is now is not a sharp defined one but I guess that's what the chinese projectors give you for the money. I needed better illumination so will a change of bulb help?

Any suggestions would be great.

Since you are in the US, if possible buy the projector setup directly for the Rapid and do the plug-and-play install here. Search online stores or places for spares in US.

Refer to TRS site and you'll know all the components that are required.

If you dont know anything or the components, buy the entire headlight unit of the new rapid which comes with projectors.

Inside city, EVs and Rallys both are fine, but you will see the difference on open highways.

Can't figure out why you want to downgrade from Rallys to EVs.Is there any reflector/glass fading issue?
No issues right now but see a color tinge behind the bulb area when lights are on . Moreover thought that EV will have a wider throw.

A quick question:

In the Fiat Linea, the H1 bulbs are for high beam and H7 for low beam, are they not?

H1: High beams;
H7: Low beams.

If you do not know anything about HID & Projectors then one way is, as Motomaverick has said, to install the new headlamps of the Rapid from the service centre. Another way maybe to find a dependable guy who can do the job for you. Several members have got their projectors installed from Sai Auto in Khar, Mumbai.

You can PM Moderator TSK1979, as he has done lot of research on this subject and he can probably lead you to reliable vendors in India (If any)

Remember US and we drive on the opposite sides of the road, so India needs dip left and not right.

If you are buying it there, get a projector meant for RHD cars and not the LHD found in countries like the US.

+1 to that. This is a far more direct fit compared to adding projectors to the current assembly. Another advantage is for the high beam you can use a halogen bulb which is much more suitable compared to HID for high beam.

.
Again the drive matters here. The LHD lamps will create the wrong beam pattern and hence blind oncoming users even in low beam.

Thank you!

Could you please suggest a website to buy a pair of Philips X-treme Vision H1s?

I don't think there's a retailer in my town. Asked at a couple of auto electricals shops, but they don't have these.

I found two sites that sell these, 99rpm.com and vicky.in, but both have very high shipping charges, taking the cost to Rs. 1105/ 1110, higher than the MRP. E-bay retailers again ask for Rs. 1255+
