phillips extreme power have normal clear glass,so they should have a yellow throw like stock.

The bulb type may be H1 (single filament), but the wattage for fog need not necessarily be high beam wattage. Lower wattages will also do for fog. This is my understanding; please correct me if wrong.

Re: Auto Lighting thread : Post all queries about automobile lighting here

I am looking to upgrade the fog lamps for my all new swift. Could anyone guide me in telling which is the best brand of H8 (white) light. The upgrade is purely for aesthetic appeal as I have already changed my headlights to 90/100 white light.

It would also be interesting to know H8 SMD LED bulbs are available India.

Yes. Osram NB+ do have blue tints. This may be causing me more trouble during rain. You can probably give feedback on Philips xtreme after you drive in rains. I am completely dissatisfied with NB+.

Thats the reason, any bulb with a blue tint wont perform in rain or fog.
Phillips extreme power are clear types, will update once i get them.

Could you please elaborate on the technical reason behind that ?
Is it because of the blue tint or is it common for all "white lights" including the HIDs ?

Yes it is true for all lights including HID's.
they dont reflect off a wet road,as a normal yellow\whiter beam of light would. And in case of fog,it gets scattered badly-i hope this helps.
This is why its recommend that one should get 4300K HID over 6000\8000K(these look cool and bright but are useless in extreme weather)

Re: Auto Lighting thread : Post all queries about automobile lighting here

It is easy to understand why blue light is not effective in fog / rain. Fog and rain particles scatter light. Scattering increases as the inverse fifth power of the wavelength. Blue has almost half the wavelength of red, so is scattered 32 times more. Hence more backscatter glare and less visibility.

As an aside the practice of using yellow fogs originated during Le Mans in the fifties. Blinded by the glare some drivers decided to paste newspaper on the headlamps. The paper was yellow (typical newsprint) and the visibility improved. So one thing led to another.

A1 wheel Alignment Center near Ashoka Pillar Jayanagar. He does a good job for Rs. 200. Got the alignment equipement for better accuracy.

While coming from Nimhans hospital side, you hit the Y cross, straight goes towards city market and left leg towards Ashoka pillar jayanagar. This shop is just begining of that cross in the lefthand side. Sorry if this location detail is confusing to you.
I had my car done there and few of my friends' as well and all happy with the result. I strongly suggest an alignment at such professional shops (with proper equipments) especially after upgrades.

Hey there,

Any idea where I can buy phillips xtreme vision/power online?

They are not available on ebay.in.

I want to order them online as I live in a remote corner of Chennai.

Well true.Whether its fog lamp or head lamps, anything over 4300K is not good from a functionality point of view! Although if you put HID in the fog there will be much less scattering and you get a good beam pattern
