Went with Autolamps as NK had a good experience with them.
I personally tried checking the X-treme's prices in Ireland, and they were higher than what Autolamps quoted. Placed my order from Autolamps, as was the cheapest compared to other online shops too..

Bulging Bulbs!

Today I was driving with the high beam on to make both headlights work, just got home to realise that the high beam on the right side has also FUC**D up!
Since my last 2 posts did not get any replies, I am posting again.

With the problems I mentioned above, I replaced the bulb few days ago and was shocked to see the condition.

What the heck is this?

Ankit,

You have mentioned that electrics are all good so won't go down that route.

During installation did anyone touch the bulb glass with bare hands? Even if touched was it cleaned with alcohol thereafter?

Touching with hands may have caused a 'weak spot' on the bulb which ultimately caused it to catastrophically release the halogen gas contained in it.

. and also the bulge is in the place where the tiny reflector in the bulb is pointing.

I would think that is a result of the bulb overheating. But I think tsk would be the right person to answer that.

yes its overheating.
Since electricals are okay, it can be either a dirty bulb or a fake

Wow! I've never ever seen a bulb that has a bulge like this.. Looks eerie too.

Btw, is it possible for the Ikon's headlights to manage 100/130w bulbs with Roots relay and ceramic holders?

it can be a misfit for that particular model of reflector also (thinking out loud)

Original bulbs are made to certain regulations, so are the reflectors.
This is a classic bubble failure which is more often than not caused by dirty bulbs.
Many mechanics touch the bulb while installing with greasy hands. Thats enough to cause a failure. Infact such a bulb will definitely fail, its just a question of when.

Hmmm.. Leaves me with more confusion.

First, I installed the bulbs on my own, and I did not touch them at all.(Unless they were touched by someone else before being sold).

Second, my sources for spares are never wrong, so I strongly disagree about the bulbs being fake.

Can moisture cause this? I noticed that there is a small hole (half inch dia) on the top of the headlight assembly which could have led to this?

When the low beam blew first, I used the headlights on highbeam for a long time before it failed too. But the other bulb is working well.

Headlights-Philips Ralley or any other choice for Maruti800

Looking for brights lights for M800 97.Should i go for 90/100 philips or 130/100 will 130/100 burn the casing and the outer plastic casing
.Though i need bright headlights for highway travel yet im concerned about 130/100 as it may blind the vehicles coming in the opp direction. will this -VE efect can be subdued if the light angle is adjusted. suggestions are welcome. any other brand.
By the way IS blue lights are BETTER for HIGHWAYS.pl let me know. The relay/cutout MINDA. is that OK..TIA

100/90 Phillips Rally should be enough for most cases. 130/100 might mess with youe headlamps (though am not sure on that... Experts will help you out).

If you go through the thread, you'll get other options and answers as well.

ankit, anything on the glass, which can be grease, moisture etc., can destroy the bulb.
In your case I think there is something wrong with the electricals.
Most shops just connect a multimeter to the alternator and check the voltage. Sometimes the regulator has a problem that for short periods it spiked the voltage to 15-16V for a short time.

Since you have a relay etc., you get the full voltage for that short time.
Since your low beam is blowing, which is a very rare case and you are having multiple failures, it points to electricals.

I suggest connect a multimeter to the battery terminals and watch the voltage. While doing that rev the engine, play around with the lights, AC etc., and see if you have voltage crossing the 13.8 or something mark.
