are your hids 35w or 50w? was the wiring in your skoda proper? and the only reason i can think of for the blackening is that they gave out too much heat for the reflectors.

for the swift why dont you buy projector headlamps and fit them in that. the focus would be better. also low_bass_makker has hids in his swift and he is happy with them. there is also a thread for hids in swifts.

Well i will have to check that. Its a P4 HID Kit. It has yellow low beam and Xenon High beam. There are 2 filaments, which makes me think its for H4 ?

I think the wiring was proper. The installer from whom i got all the work done for my car, is well known in Pune and everything else done by him on my car works perfectly, only the lights didnt.

Hi Akshay,

What seems to be the problem. Is the glass broken then the answer is NO.

Viper
what you can make out broken is the outer protective layer.

Help needed for Headlight Up-grades !

Team,

I am not happy with my zen’s headlights! It’s a normal headlight which I got when I bought my car ! its illumination is too low, sometimes in the nights can not see any thing ROAD, I chked with my local mechanic he advised to change bulbs to 90/100 he has quoted 1000Rs for the same. I have no knowledge about the auto lights, pls tel me shd I go for 90/100 bulbs, do I need to change entire assembly ? or I can only change bulbs what will be the approximate cost for the same ? Is there any other to this like Xenon ?? Is white lights are ok or shd I go for yellow lights ?? all are allowed in mumbai ??

Awaiting for your feedback

Thx in advance

Regards,
Jitendra

Search the thread for Phillips Vision +50, all your questions will be answered. This had been discussed to death.

Please do a search before you make a new thread. Already there's a Sticky thread discussion about headlights. It's here.

About your query, 90/100w will be sufficient. 1000 Rs is about the ideal price including the relay & holder. Going above 90/100w, i.e.100/130w will be more powerful, but will glare the oncoming traffic a lot as well as darken your headlight casing.

From your avatar i can see you have the old design zen.

Dont buy any white light bulbs it will simply blind u even more. U need a crystal clear headlamps to get the best out of white lights. I tried it and then shifted back to 90/100 W Philips Rally halogens. Its the best u can do in a zen.

Rally will cost u Rs 300 and Relay will cost u another Rs 300-700 depending on the brand u get.

Either go for 90/100 but youll have to change the holder, wiring and get a relay installed, also there will be risk of light glass getting black.

or you can go for some after market bulbs but which have the wattage of 60/55. Thsi way you wont have to change anything except bulbs as the standard lights are also the same wattage. you can gop for vision plus from philips. i have heard they are very nice and give a nice white light too.

nicejits: this is a very good and important point by kpzen. White light lamps are their best with clear lenses. stay with yellow halogens but of course you can safely upgrade to 100/90 on your casing and it will not cost a penny more than what your chap said - Rs. 1000/-

as you have an old zen also remember to do headlamp alignment. the new mechanics may not know about it or be reluctant to do it; but the old ones will surely do this. it is useful and is safe for others on the opposite side of the road.

Agree with kpzen. But your mechanic is quoting high. I would expect the total to be around 700-800 (with a good relay)

I am using Philips Rally for 2 years now, on the stock holder. I haven't faced any issue so far. Only precaution you got to take is switching to parking when the car is stationary, to avoid overheating.
