Finally I managed to transfer files to my iPad wirelessly. I just had to place the iPad flat in portrait mode and move them to the camera roll. From there to Lumafusion.

I used it for the very first time since I got it 10 days ago and due to my typical bad luck, had to rain. I did a time warp on the default settings. I just found out I have a stone chip on my windscreen.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Is there an Authorized GoPro dealer in India ? I searched their website but nothing concrete was listed.

This is one device where there is a big price difference between the US and India. In case I get one from the US via someone and it runs into any issues. Is there anyway I can claim Warranty for the device ?

Any experiences from other GoPro owners would be much appreciated

Hi Fillmore, sorry, picked up your thread almost a year later and wanted to check how did your experience go? I think the prices (atleast for GoPro Hero9) have kind of stabilised to saner levels online in India though you still have about an 7.5K- 8K differential from the US markets. I did buy one earlier this month from Amazon and after applying the Prime cashback it worked out to about 28K which isnt bad.

I also checked that the model delivered is a Middle-east model (with the UAE and Oman TRA registrations on the box) but sans the Arabic instruction booklet (guess that would have been removed by the importer). It also comes with 1 year warranty, though I think the ones that the official Indian distributor is selling has 1+1 years of warranty. Would be eager to know how your experience has been?

Hi TorqueyTechie, SJCAM seems to be the leader at a lower price bracket in India. The mid July sale on Amazon could be a good time to hunt for a bargain too. They have different models with different capabilities (resolution and frames per second vary accordingly). Depending on the purpose that you want to buy your cam for, you can zero-in on your model. The GoPro9 currently retails on Amazon for 29k minus any card discounts that you get (or the 5% cashback on Amazon card); however, it could get more attractive during the sale too.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I've been using an action cam (DJI Osmo Action) very regularly since the last 3 years on my bike rides. However, on our car trips, we have to use a hack like putting it on a selfie stick and sticking it out of the window, which is OK but doesn't provide the best possible footage. How do people who use action cams mount them on their cars?

Meanwhile Hero 11 price dropped to 37K on Amazon, from around 50K launch price.

Despite being "info packed", one of the most boring GoPro release videos I've seen. I guess because most of the stuff is superlative adjectives with no real objective measurement (ala Apple), and re-hashing the stuff that even the Hero 11 did, rather than focussing only on what's new in the 12.

Also, bordering on over-processed in terms of colours.

The pairing of airpods/headphones with it is super smart though... (@6:40 onward).

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Hi guys,

I am looking to buy cheapest and best possible (6-7K range) action/Helmet cam for my occasional bike trips. Usage will be very limited, only for making trip vlogs/videos on bike. Can anybody plz guide me where to start from and what are my options?

Thanks.

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

I’m in a slight dilemma. My Hero 5 Black’s battery has given up and I ordered the new blue and black batteries. However it’s asking me to update to firmware 2.70 - which makes it compatible with the new blue and black batteries. Sadly, you need the old battery to upgrade. I either get a battery too level low for software update or it just doesn’t start up back during the install. Can someone with a working battery lend me theirs for this software update?

Location preference is Pune and Navi Mumbai.

Thanks

Re: Helmet / Car Cameras : GoPro, Contour, etc

Anybody who is looking for a PoV Chest Mount for GoPro, take a look at this deal from Reliance Digital: GoPro Chest Mount at Rs. 299 (91% OFF). I purchased one out of curiosity and it wasn't too bad. The buckle adapter's rubber plug was rotten and the box was a bit dusty (old stock from 2021) - otherwise a great buy (if you need a chesty). I think the magnetic mounts are better/easy to wear though.

Not sure about 6-7K range, but I recently bought a DJI Action2 power combo, which was launched 3 years ago. Since then, the prices have fallen down to below 14k.

It can do up to 4k60, 4k120 (slo-mo) & comes with built in 128GB storage on the camera module. The power module has an sd card slot to increase the storage.

Here's a sample footage I recorded, POV Driving video, includes footages from 5:50 PM until about 6:45 PM. It does an excellent job in daylight. Not that great in low light, but still can be used for vlogging.
