Re: PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova

That Sanden unit works very well on the Innova. One of my Office Innovas had one and it used to chill us in no time in the sweltering Delhi summers.
Very detailed snaps of the fitments. I am pretty confident that I may retro fit one myself now.

With most of the hard day's work behind, I thought it was time the team deserved a break and be treated with something sumptuous and what better than the hot samosas from the very famous samosawala from park site, and the team had a nice time biting into them.

Must give due thanks to the entire team to have done such superb work meticulously, Anisbhai standing amidst his team in the center.

Re: PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova

Hi Parsh (sorry if my query is already answered through one of your pics / earlier posts), my query is : How is this additional AC driven, is it from the same compressor with additional ducting, or is there another compressor ?

Thanks for sharing this mod

Hi Mooza, no worries. I can answer that. Pls check the pic below and some other related to the same in the pic sequences so far.

PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova-p105062880pc.jpg

PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova-p105062980pc.jpg

The additional aircon is essentially a blower only with the a/c flow from the existing stock assembly of compressor and condensor. There is no additional compressor and condensor required in this.

If you observe the pic above especially, what you will see is that the additional aircon pipe is attached as a T-Junction at the existing channeling of a/c flow in the stock fitments. The outer (or top) pipe is stock while the middle sandwitched pipe with the sleeve is the additional pipe fitted as a T-junction. The additional pipes added in this T-junction are supplying the same a/c flow from existing compressor and condensor to this blower unit and vice-versa (I mean the exit from this blower unit feeds back to the existing assembly for re-processing by compressor and condesor again).

Hope that makes it clear.

Re: PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova

In my opinion they could have removed the floor carpets as well before proceeding with the install. As I find that during install they have made it more worser. Did they do any cleaning after installation?

Interesting, for the stock rear aircon they charged Rs 70000 extra as the difference. And I was told that that a retrofit would cost Rs 60000 in chennai (at the dealership). May be they were quotting it for 2 units.

I finally went in for the one with stock rear A/C (GX) and I have been very satisfied with the effect so far. The two row a/c at the rear works wonders. Looking at the amount of work I would suggest one to always go for stock rear a/c as far as possible.

Any reason for going for a middle row alone?

It is not necessary to remove the carpet for this sort of aftermarket fitting. This is the way it is done for this sort of fitment. But it differs from place to place on how cleanly and neatly they do it. They will keep cloth, cushioning at respective times and have neatly cleaned interiors: carpet, ceiling, and seats pretty well at the end of the day.

The stock aircon with rear row vents is a different fitment altogether. It comes with additional compressor, condensor fitment housed at rear side and the vents are diverted to rooftop in a different manner from rear (although I would not be able to recount exactly). Additionally it involves replacement of the entire ceiling to get the factory fitted vents that are enclosed in the ceiling. That is why the cost would be much higher. Also assuming that this would be a assuredly genuine Toyota kit made available and not a aftermarket kit available.

That great.

If you want to get the stock factory-fitted fit and finish, stock a/c option is the best but at a very high cost.

But if you weigh the cost & good effective ac refrofit against this and okay with this retrofit outlook then this retrofit option is pretty good.

The retrofit is not only for the middle row, it functions for both the 2nd and 3rd rows. This retrofit has 4 large vents (more than double the size of the stock vents for rear rows - not to mean that thats why they are more effective, but just to highlight the fitment). You can choose to divert a set of 2 vents to each row and get good cooling in both the 2nd and 3rd rows. We rarely need to go beyond Med level of the retrofit aircon.

Re: PICS : Rear Aircon Retro-fitting in my Toyota Innova

Parsh,
More closer look into the pictures helped me to understand what was done.
How is the rear a/c controlling done(does it switch on automatically when the front a/c is turned on)? How about the temperature selection? In the stock rear a/c only when the compressor is turned on in the front we get cool air in the rear vents are these behaviour the same in retrofit as well?

One final question did they have to remove the glove box near the hand brake handle?
