Thanks to both of you for these links. I am a big fan of DIY and these were very informative.

Hi Guys,

My Palio SLX will be delivered next week. Here is the ICE setup I have in mind:

HU-Pioneer 5950/7950
Boston 560 Components
Blaupunkt GTA 4ch Spl Mk amp
Polk momo 8" subwoofer with closed enclosure.

Is this setup decent enough for a basic ICE? I will mostly be listening to soft instrumental and old hindi songs. The kids might want to play a bit of jazz/rock on long drives.

Any changes/recommendations welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Cheers,
Rajan

They seem fine for 'basic' ICE. You may audition other brands like JBL, Illusion, Infinity and Hertz for components. I hope you've chosen Boston after auditioning them.

I would recommend a bigger sub to the current 8". 12" subs can go much lower than 8", which would be better for your kids' choice of music. I presume there will not be much of a difference in price. A good VFM subwoofer would be JBL GT4-12 (CS1204). Again, you may audition many brands before deciding.

basic! hello!

thats more than 20k and even has compo and a sub!

This is very much informative Navin.Good post.

Navin I was thinking if we could compile a list containing stock speaker sizes of all Indian cars? The list would prove quite useful, won't it?

Agreed JK. But we guys from the ICE section stop nowhere, do we? :D No matter how good a system is, we find something to add, make the person feel terrible about smallest of things and finally make him spend. Lots.

However, this is totally OT. Let us stop it here. :)

my dad has decided to buy swift ZXi.

But I wish to install some good quality ICE in it.
Is it possible to install a sub on the HU supplied by the company
or it is necessary to change the entire music system?
Also, can you face any sort of wiring problem while doing so?
Thanks.

hi satansvalet
please meet all ICERS here
Ask the Gurus - Team-BHP

as for your question
A subwoofer would require an amplifier , it is not advisable that you run it directly off the Head unit.
For "good quality ICE" ( depending on what you call good) you may have to change the entire system- but i dont think your dad will be too fond of this idea huh?
i mean you will have to loose the steering controls and also rip off the company fitted HU !

rather than doing that i advice using y connectors . use them with your current HU so you will have 2-3 pair of pre outs
now you can use a 4 channel amp.
change your front speakers to components and drive them from 2 channels of the amp and drive a subwoofer off the other 2 channels ( bridged)

good components-entry level - 4800-6000rs
(bull audio,ilusion,JBL,Blaupunkt)
4 channel amp 6000rs (blaupunkt,kenwood,JBL)
subin sealed box - 4000-6500 rs
wiring and istall - 1000 rs
damping which is advisable in the swift - 2000-2500 rs on the front doors

theres 20k gone.
and if you enter the ice world expect more!

Thanks for your valuable input. You got my Dad's thought process bang on target !

With the tips you provided,i think i ll be able to convince my dad to shell out 20k :)

Thanks once again for clearing my doubts.

I bought my Indica Vista Quad. this month and have little money for a good ICE set up. Can I temporarily buy a good Head Unit and 2 rear speakers and later add 2 front speakers? What would you suggest.

How important are antennas ?
The same HU can be fitted in any car. Some have no antennas, some power, some fixed. Does it really matter ? Are some HU's more dependent on antennae than others ?

Antennae are impt for recieving signals and normally in city the radio signals are strong enough to catch up
they are very critical if you are an avid radio listener on the drive in remote areas (however nowadays it is more of CD/pendrive)

Sir please explain what you mean by this and how do you bridge 2 channels into one sub-woofer.

Yes, i think most of us struggle with accurate sizes of stock speaker sizes. If not for all, then for the more popular cars atleast.

Any sources you are aware of?
