Also are there any semi-synthetic oils which will keep the costs lower and still give me a few advantages?
When I had the Santro I changed the oil to semi synthetic at about 30K kms. The difference was tangible, engine became smoother & became bit silent and this is something I felt that could raise many eyebrows, the revving became smoother ! NO, I didnt have any after market filters, but i felt this difference post filling semi-synth. But I didnt check the FE as I didnt have the practice of checking FE.

I wanted to go for pure Synth but fortunately or unfortunately my wallet didnt allow and hence I bought the Castrol Semi Synth, which I felt was more than enough !

Hi, which Semi Synth Oil did you use, can you give the exact name of the oil & give the cost incurred.

My i10 has covered 10k till now.

i wanted to know if its ok to put Synth Oil now or i will have to wait for another few thousand Km to put it in.
My car warranty is over so it does not matter.

No problems with Warranty as the Service center will not even come to know of it.

You can fill synthetic oil now. You will require about 3.6 Litres.

Funny thing

I checked with two local dealers for prices of Castrol synthetic oil for the Santro. One of them quoted Rs. 4000 for a 4 litre can. The other quoted about 1300-1500 for a 3 litre can. Both the cans carry the Castrol logo and details. Common sense makes me think the cheaper oil may not be genuine or may not be fully synthetic. Can anyone give insights into this?

I recently changed to Mobil Synt S. It is 98% Synthetic and cost me 2950 for 4 litres.

The grade is 5W40. I too changed in my i10 after 10k kms.

Better to buy Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic at 2700-2800/4 litres. Synt S is the poorer cousin of Mobil 1 and not worth the price IMHO.

Castrol synthetic comes in 4 litre only, the 3L packaging must be of Magnatec or some other oil. Magnatec is about Rs 280/litre. You will need to check the labels carefully and chose the right grade and API spec of oil.

Hi

was using Magnatec(semi synthetic) in my Alto and got 14km/l.
Changed to Shell Helix HX5 (premium mineral oil) as semi synthetics have
become too costly and wasn't happy with it anyway . Now I get 16km/l.

Rgds,
I bought shell helix ultra at Rs 1015 per litre for my motorcycle at a shell petrol bunk and I was asked 4060 for 4 litres.

Can you let me know where I can get it cheaper

I'm as of now ok with the performance of Synt S. After some time,I will upgrade to Mobil1

I haven't had any problems so far but not seeing any outright benefits either.

I will start using the normal HX3 20W50 oil from my next service.

I was repeatedly told that using fully synthetic oil in the bike will cause clutch slippage. Have you experienced this phenomenon so far ?
