Any info about elf moto gold 4 fully synthetic oil for bikes? It is a 10W50 and I recently purchased two cans of it. Could you please advise which grade of synthetic to be used for Santro Xing (2007 model). I dont have a manual to check for this.
Its clocked 37000 Kms now. Is it worth switching to synthetic now.

OWS has 5w40, but they only sell in 4 litre cans. I need only 5 litres I think.

@nitrous : driv3r is correct.As the discussion is primarily about the viscosity when hot I skipped the lower number. In case you are interested my Santro is currently on Magnatec 10W40, and Civic on Mobil1 0W40.

0Wx is for snowy, icy, crazy cold temperatures.
Between 5W40 and 0W40, for Mumbai conditions, I would go for the 5W40.
5W40 is available in Mobil as a Synt S (Semi synth)
So, get the Shell Helix Ultra 5W40. Easily available in 4 and 1 litre packs.

Absolutely you can!

It's AS good as the mineral oil you use, if not better!

Synthetics have a more uniform molecular structure and ensure low levels of NVH when compared to a mineral. Do the switch, just monitor the levels regularly. And DO NOT flush before switching to synthetic, said to cause problems with older engines as it washes away all the carbon build-up from the engine. Just ensure that the old oil is hot enough and let it drain completely.

Ideally avoid the shift if the vehicle has done more than 80-90 k kms. Rewind a little bit to know the reason. Its better to use a better grade minerals for the time being.

A bit confused as it is normally a good practice to flush. Is this due to his high mileage or there is a shift of theory now. please: explain.

This has always been a hot topic. I, for one, do not believe in flushing an engine which has seen regular oil changes. Doubly so, If the engine is quite old.
