My friend is using Petro-Canada Semi-Synthetic. He told me to use that. According to him they are good and it uses synthetic base oil for the Synthetic Blend Oil.

Quote:
And as I'v been saying repeatedly - semi synthetic does not really mean much unless the manufacturers mentions the percentage of synthetic component. So try not to base your buying decision on a label that says semi-synthetic! And dont get carried away by marketing gymmics!!
Ya thats why i was asking because as soon as i saw USES SYNTHETIC TECH it made me think its a marketing gimmick.

Is it necessary to use engine flush again after using synthetic oil?

Have used both helix ultra and edge and i liked edge better. Fellow members feel mobil1 is even better so would stick to that.

the synthetic oils from total have been gaining quite a reputation on the global scene and they are now available in india. this is surely a must try.
Also check with manufacturer.

i am using agip semi synthetic in my uno 15W40, and i can honestly feel a much smoother acceleration after switching to it, the engine feels a lot more energetic. this has been observed only after about 2 changes. long run synthetic is better.

my honest suggestion is use any regular mineral oil and change it every 5K kms. this should be more than enough.

I Think shell Helix is far more better.

^^^No reason why you can't go for fully synth if your engine is in good shape and you want to spend the $.

Any special reason why you want to use 5W50? It will be too thick for most modern cars.

Engine flush is only required when you are changing brands or type of oil (synth to mineral or vice versa). For other times, just a 20 minute drain is enough.

Nope, an engine flush is useful to remove dirt / deposits from the engine as well. Even when using the exact same type of oil!

Is there a proposed schedule for flushing the engine?
