Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Bought this oil from a local shop, for 2k. The other option was gulf ultrasynth. Will update about the performance after the oil change.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Can you just screenshot the page(s) in your manual that talk about what oil spec or specs to use? Especially if there is a graph that has a range of oil weights over different temperatures.

The k12c worldwide seems to have gone to 0w16 (essentially a thinner 0w20) mostly for fuel economy related reasons as well as to meet much stricter emissions standards in Japan.

Just use a 5w30 oil A5B5 (or A3B4 or C2 or C3, fine) across the board for your maruti either petrol or diesel. As the graph on the second page says the 5w30 can be used just fine. Something like Shell Helix Taxi will be quite good, don't just go by "taxi" there, it is an excellent semi synthetic oil. Full synthetic try Shell HX8 if you still have stocks available, or Mobil Super 3000, Valvoline All Climate Advanced etc 5w30.

Initial impression of the Motul oil is quite good. Engine has become very refined and pickup is also good.

The 1st image specifies that the A3/B4 Engine Oil could be used, if the vehicle is without DPF. How to check if the vehicle is with DPF or without?

Which Diesel Engine Oil to go for in Aftermarket?

If its 0W20 C5, which inexpensive Oil could be used? The 2nd image specifies- "If the recommended engine oil is not available in your country, you are able to use engine oil above API CH-4". Does it mean the engine oil with API rating above CH-4 could be safely used in the vehicle?

The 3rd image- Recommended SAE Viscosity Number, it specifies that 5W30, or 0W20/30 Grade Engine Oils are recommended.

Totally confused..

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

With DPF = BS6 car
Without DPF = BS4 car

0w20 C5 is not available cheap / inexpensive in the market, only full synthetic oils are available.

You could just use a 5w30 or 10w30 / 10w40 / 15w40 oil as the graph suggests, for this use API CK4 or ACEA C2 / ACEA C3 spec to ensure BS6 compatibility, the same oils work fine for BS4 as well.

I'm running my Endeavour on Castrol CRB 10w30 Mini Truck CK4 - for BS6 tata ace mini trucks. Believe it or not, it performs very smoothly on this oil.

Look at the huge range of oil weights and grades supported - any oil spec that is DPF friendly (see above) will happily work for you. Or yes you can buy 0w20 ACEA C5. What they say is it has excellent cold start capabilities, but to experience anything like a challenge for any normal oil in cold start in India, you'd have to be in Spiti in midwinter.

Try GS Caltex 5w30 fully synthetic oil, it is an excellent oil and I have been using it for the last almost 10 years in my Swift K Series. It also meets the highest specifications. Available on Amazon and is not expensive either!

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Can i get an advice on which engine oil from amsoil or mobil to use for my Honda City VTEC 2001

I am thinking of 0W40 grade as it will provide less resistance on this old engine at startup and also would help on highway runs as it is run 1.4L kilometres.

How is amsoil signature series?

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Mobil1 0w40 is excellent for that engine, as is Amsoil signature series, and quite a lot of overkill unless you use it frequently for long highway drives

Just get shell helix taxi 5w30 semi synthetic, change every 7-8k km and enjoy life (excellent oil, don’t go by the taxi name)

I normally get my 2013 Wagon R's oil change done at my nearest Shell station. I wanted to go for Shell Taxi, but the folks at the station said they no longer stock it. Instead I went for Shell HX6 5w30.

I think that is the same thing that shell just renamed due to nobody other than cabbies buying “taxi oil” - yeah much the same just updated to bs6 specs.

If 5W30 works.well, go for fully synthetic GS Caltex 5W30 G1 Kixx. It.is an excellent oil at an affordable price of about.Rs 1700.for.3.5 lt. I have been using it.for the last 10 years and it is fantastic!
