Castrol Magnatec is not synthetic!
I'm using Petronas Syntium 3000, 5W-40 for my wife's Alto. I'm also using the same in my Civic. Very good results and very good VFM in my opinion
Get the engine flushed before the change and of course, change the oil filter

Mobil1 for Spark?

My Spark has done a little over 2500kms, and I was wondering whether it is advisable to put in Mobil1 at 5K? I've seen the ads, and it apparently managed to keep a BMW's engine parts within manufacturing tolerance after 100000kms. This was with the car up on a conveyor belt, but still! Chevrolet has oil change listed every 10k kms in the manual so am not sure.

@dsinz:do remember for very 5K oil change you need to replace with syn.oil.it cost you almost double the price of normal change oil.

Its just FYI.

I got the understanding that it can last for one year or 10K assuming normal driving conditions

I think 2.5k is too early for synthetic. The engine parts are still virtually new and are just about getting used to rubbing against each other and getting to know each other Mineral oils are better at handling this phase when lot of debris gets generated inside the engine. This is the reason why initially oil change is generally recommended more frequently.

Double? Are you kidding? It is five to six times depending on what minerals you were using before.

Please suggest me which one to go with. Castrol Magnatec or Shell Helix?
Or is there any other brand or the specific grade that i need to use.
I am using Castrol magnatec since 5K service and I am a very happy customer. Castrol Magnatec is semi synthetic and works well with Alto. Suggest you to use that.

Mobil1 and other syhtetic oils costs a lot (Rs800 / lit or more) and not required for Alto.

hi, go for synthetic. Good lubrication and engine life will be extended. Small carbon particles will be removed. Engine will be smooth. The oil change cycle can be extended.

Interesting. I assume you say that because with a higher running, better lubrication and care is needed for the engine. Which fully synthetic can provide, right? However, with higher running and fully synthetic, your costs of replacement would also run up high. e.g. my daily running is around 60 km, so I assume I would need to change oil every ~6 months or so?

This price was given to me by the distributor in Pune for 0W40. His office is in Chinchiwad, near Panchashil Hotel. I contacted exxonmobile via email for the oil type and distributors in Pune. There are infact only 2 main distributors in Pune. I contacted on of them, Mr. Kapil. He told me that I can also buy from Gyani Motors, Nanapeth.

I didn't go for the change to Mobil 1 for mainly 2 reasons;

1). As I was new to Pune, I enquired about Nanapeth with in my friends circle and I was adviced by not to buy anything Nanapeth as it is famous for duplicates.
2). The price quoted was high and so I wanted confirm the price.

I have few questions for you:

1). Which car do you have?
2). Which type of Mobil 1 you are using?
3). Since how long you are using Mobil 1?
4). How much you have driven your car with Mobil 1?
5). Do you recommend Gyani Motors in Nanapeth?

Thanks
