Mobil1 is available for 3.2k in Pune also. But when I checked with another distributor he was asking 4K.

Finally I decided not to for it and to have my oil changed every 5k.

It is the dealers who sell it for 4.2K and odd here in Bangalore as well, but every city has a Distributor and one needs to scout for that store and directly buy it from them which you get it for 3.2K.

I think you might have checked @ a dealer's place and obviously they sell it @ a higher rate around 800 to 1K more than the distributor sells it for.

Just changed engine oil to Motul Synergie 6100 Series 15W-50 for my Baleno. I was using Magantec before. Flushed the 43k run engine for 5 mins. I got the Motul directly from the distributor in Kolkata.

Damages:
Motul: 2750/-
Flush: 160/-
Oil Filter: 75/-

Link:
MOTUL Motor Oil - 6100 Series - Group 5 Motorsport - A premier automotive performance store in San Diego

Outcome:
I think the voice of my engine has changed. Less noise I guess. Other advantages of the oil: I need to find out with time.

Distributors Comment:
We sell this oil only to Merc and BMW workshops. I guess special cars need special treatment. They only need these special oils. What is the make of your car?

What flush was this Vr7om? Motul branded? By the way, what's the Motul range these guys keep? Do they keep gear oil and brake fluid too?

Thanks nitrous. I thought both Delo-400 and GTX are API-CI4. Wanted to know whether Delo-400 is better than GTX 15W40 ?

cheers,

Delo-400 is rated higher (CI-4 plus) than GTX Diesel. You can safely go for Delo-400 if available.I've been using it in my Safari (2.2) without any problems for past 9K kms.
Also Delo has higher HTHS & TBN numbers compared to GTX Diesel,so better still !!!

Help required !!

I own a SWIFT VDI DDIS, I had changed to MOBIL1 5W50 API SM fully synthetic oil during my 20k kms oil change after flushing out the old mineral oil. Now my car has run 27k kms . But i got to know resently that i was using the wrong grade of engine oil since 20K. 5W50 API SM, which i learnt now that, is for petrol cars and it is API CH/CI for diesel.

1. Can somebody please guide me on, whats the right grade of synthetic engine oil for the DDIS?
2. Did i do any harm to my engine by changing to API SM and running with it for past 7k kms?
3. What should i do now? (Can i continue with this oil till 30k kms? and then change to API CH )

Srikant, Not much harm using 5W50 fully synthetic.
Mobil Delvac 1 would be more appropriate for your diesel swift.

I am planning to go for Mobil1 5W50 for my Getz 1.3. It has clocked around 27,000 kms till now. Will be using ABRO flush to eradicate old mineral oil.

1. What will be the cost of 3.3 ltrs of Mobil1 5W50 fully synthetic?
2. Any other grade to be considered? My usage is heavy city driving (upto 90%) in Mumbai bumper-to-bumper traffic.
3. Since this is the first time I will be switching to synthetic, is it advisable to first move to semi-synthetic, and then move to fully synthetic, after getting the engine used to it?
4. If ABRO flush is not available, whats the next best alternative?
5. In the next oil change interval (10,000 kms?), do I need to replace the entire 3.3 ltrs, or just top up the synthetic oil?

I think Mobil 1 5W 50 meets API-CF which is way down what current diesel engines require on account of EGR and all i.e. API CH-4 and higher. There must be something more to an API CH-4 oil than an API-CF oil So in my opinion better change your oil instead of waiting for 30K.
Delvac 1 is very expensive and hard to get as well.Instead you can opt for Mobil Delvac MX (API-CI4) or Delo-400 (API CI-4 plus) which come at a fraction of cost but perform nearly the same as far as synthetic oil is concerned.

1.Around Rs.850 per litre
2.No,stick to 5W50
3.No,shift to synthetic in one go. No difference shifting to semi-synth and then synth. Its an engine, man. Not a baby.
4.OWS flush
5.Replace engine oil and filter every 10,000 kms.

Correct me if I am wrong, but with mineral oil, only topping up is required, right? Do synthetics need complete replacement? Wont topping up be more cost effective?
