These expensive fully synthetic lubricants have expensive, well performing additives blended in.
Call it a "built in" engine flush.

The engine will be in its pink of health only when its clean and it is necessary to be spick and span inside. Using synthetics will guarantee this and so I never recommend anyone the flush when they're gonna fill the engine up with fully synthetic oil.

Some engine flushes create more damage(wear & tear) than if the engine stayed dirty.

Hence I have upgraded to Mobil1 OWS 0W40, With this change engine became supersoft, Looking forward to improvement in performance

I have used mineral oil as well as a variety of Semi & Fully synthetic (Magnatec/Mobil1) in my Maruti 800 2005 model (64200 Kms). Synthetic seems to smoothen the engine to a great extent at higher speeds (90+ kmph).

Nearing another periodic oil change interval, i was wondering if 0W30 or 5W30 or 10W30 will suit the engine?

Please share info if anyone has used a *W30 series oil in older engines.

Filled 5W30 Castrol Magnatec (MRP 965/- paid 900/-) today. The package says especially for SX4, Estilo, Swift & Ritz but approved for all Suzuki Motor Corp vehicles.

Drove only about 5-6 kms. Engine seems to be more free. (Compared to Mobil 10W40 filled earlier)

Will check if the engine is settling to an idle faster tomorrow morning. (One think i noticed when i switched from mineral to synthetic for the first time)

The oil shop guy told that a leading Maruti A.S.S here is using 5W30 for all cars across the range. He also stocks Servo 10W30 but it is not mentioned semi synth on the pack, only "special" additives.

Of course, it would. 5W30 is a super light grade compared to the 10W40. (Irrelevant, And 20W50 would be grease in comparison)

You're probably gonna gain fuel efficiency/power at the cost of lubrication/engine life.

That said, 800 engines are cheap as chips. So, enjoy your ride.

I got 5W50 Mobil 1 Super Synth for my Ford Fiesta S yesterday. 5 litres of it.
One extra litre to top up if and when required.
Also got a new Motorcraft OE Oil filter for the same car, to install after the engine flush.

I changed from mineral to Shell Helix Ultra synthetic 5W40 in Palio 1.6.

Took Nitrous's advice, drained the old oil, changed filter and no engine flush. It consumed 3.6 lts approx., since some is still left in the can.

At first, the difference was not much. But now the engine seems to have freed up a lot and revvs more freely. I would certainly recommend this oil.

How much did it cost?
The Hyundai Service Center, where my car goes for service has 0W40, but the printed year on it is 2001.
It is very old and they mentioned that they cannot get a new one for me, but if I get it from the market, they will use it.
They charged me something around 3700/- last time for 3.x litres of 0W40

The engine is settling to idle really quickly.

Even with 10W40 it was approx 20 seconds, now it is idling even in less than 15 seconds. Is it good or bad?

Nitrous! Are you serious? I really hope if i switch back to 10W40 at next change all will be fine.

I had read somewhere in the internet that shelf life of synthetic oil is 3-4 years maximum.

I believe it is better to buy from outside oil dealer, & make sure you are present when they change the oil (for obvious reasons)

There's a reason your manufacturer specifies oil grades.
You can gladly change it to 10W40 at the next change.
To reduce high rpm wear, do not redline it until the rev limiter. Shift up at 250 rpm below rev-limit.

I checked with a dealer here in Noida. Price is 1150/- / Ltrs (With Taxes). the price is same for both Mobil1 0W40 and Mobil1 5W50.
He was saying that for indian climate, 0W40 is better than 0W50
