Mobil 1 ESP formula was available sometime back here but its not officially imported to India for some reason. Even on the Indian website its not shown in the line up.

I will try the Mobil Super 1000 next which is SN rated.

I buy Shell and Mobil only from the distributors here.

PS - I think this product is yet to reach the retail network or is being distributed in limited quantities. Which makes it a bit difficult to find. My friend too is on the look out for this oil.

I have a question guys, what is the engine oil spec used in the 2005 Corolla 1.8e petrol? What would be the recommended Synthetic oil to be used in this engine?

A quick answer would be much appreciated.

I've been using Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40 in my Altis for several years now. It has the same 1ZZ-FE engine as the 9G Corolla albeit with a slightly higher power output. The Shell oil matches the viscosity of the OEM (Toyota) synthetic so it is safe to use.

I'm quite sure its 5w30 for the petrol. You should go for the same grade and make sure its SM or SN rated.

Had referred the owners manual of my Toyota Corolla H5 1.8E (2006 model) last month for oil change and they mention 5w30 as the recommended grade.

Mobil 1 ESP Formula and Motul 8100 Eco Clean are the 2 options for 5w30 full synthetic.

Ah! Thanks for reminding me of these names

Now I recall Aru Traders the small shop near the Paud Rd. flyover, right? I used to buy Mobil 1 from him back in the mid 2000s.

Yeah, it's Raka Oil alright. Mobil India had sent me an email when I sent them an email enquiry about Mobil 1 over 10 years ago. I'd rather go to Aru Traders if he has Mobil 1 ESP than taking a 30-40 km round trip to Raka in Chinchwad.

Depending on ambient temps, the oil grades recommended for this engine are:

a) 20W-50
b) 15W-40
c) 10W-30
d) 5W-30

That last 2 are fuel saving oils.

So, any grade of synthetic starting at 5W (cold viscosity) and up to SAE 50 @ operating temp is ok for this engine. I do not recommend using SAE 50 as it is too viscous for normal driving. IMO it's best used in cars that experience sustained high speed running (which is where synthetic comes in) or in engines past their prime.

I hesitate to use M1 0W-40, even though there may be hardly an difference between a 0W and 5W. As I have mentioned so many times before I don't recommend experiments with a critical fluid like engine oil. So it's always been 5W-40 synthetic in my car, and now with a possibility of trying M1 ESP during the next service at the end of 2016.

Honda Amaze Petrol - is this a 5W30 or 10W40? I see various third party (rather than Honda) faqs that say 10W40 for petrol, 5W30 for diesel. However when I asked the SA at a Honda ASS he said 5W30. Can someone please clarify? Thanks.

Yes, I think even the grade for the City is 10w40. You can go for the Shell HX7.

My daughter-in-law has one. My Brio has the same mill. The max SAE needed is 30 (maybe even 20, as per one Owner's book). So 5W30 or 0W30 (Honda-Idemitsu Synth) are definitely fine. I use 0W30 Synth in my Civic, and the semi-synth in my Brio.

Quite a big difference in tolerance - 10W40 from what I read is traditionally for older mills compared to a fairly modern one like honda's i-vtec, so was surprised to see it being recommended.

Shell only has a mineral 5w30 here in the form of HX5. Mobil has the Super 3000 semi synthetic which I've bought for my next change.

Attaching the screenshots from the owners manual for the benefit of all. Till last year the previous owner was using 5w30 mineral oil and recently I got the 5w30 synthetic oil filled during the annual service, since I didn't wanted to change the grade preferred by the manufacturer.
