If you buy from good shops, You get Genuine Products- Try Khan Market, Batra Auto sales- LSR , Batra Auto Sales at Ashram , Sec-16 Market Noida..!

Just ensure that the Castrol Hologram is there on the Can- Top Seal.

wolf made the correct point. Look for hologram.
Shell Helix is another diesel oil. It meets API-CG standards, which are again superior of the API-CD required.
I have used that oil and it works great.

I suggest till a API-CH4 or API-CI synthetic oil gets available use you castrol GTX Diesel(Remember, not GTD) which is API-CI 15W40.
Its the highest grade diesel oil I have seen in the market.

Ok, I am going to try and get another perspective to this one:

They say that palio 1.6 engine is an oil cooled one (read in other threads)... so, are there any qualities in the synthetic oil which will aid in better cooling also?

Another question: Does engine oil price vary like petrol prices all across India??

palio engine is water cooled only, unless one is referring to coolant as oil. yeah all engine oils do help in some part of cooling. hmmm Synthetics might be contributing to cooling with better lubricating properties.

yes prices will vary slightly within india due to different taxation.

hi,
Which synthetic oil is better for WagonR? Castrol Edge or Mobil1? Does anybody here who used synthetic oils in WagonR? Would like to hear their experiences with synthetics.

Thanks in advance.

From a Castrol Dealer..lol !

Check with your service station- Castrol/ Mobil are OEM Oils for TATA- Maybe the dealer uses Castrol..!

Else inquire from a spare parts shop...Just ensure you buy a Sealed Can with Hologram and proper information and print- sometimes fake carry some error on the label..!

Hindustan Oil Company-Shivaji Nagar,
Nirmal Traders- Shivajinagar,
Tupe lubricants- Nagar Road.

Just google for these & you'll get their phone numbers.
I got these from Castrol India rep.

No it doesnt. If you have a good relationship with the service station, that helps too.
