Shell and Mobil are the more popular brands when it comes to engine oil. With a running of 3,000-3,500kms a year, as long as you stick to the specified grade and a reputed brand - the actual oil should not make a major difference

I believe Mobil's Super 1000 should fit your need. Link

The main Mira-Bhayander road coming from Uttan and ending at the highway has a line of auto spare parts shops and garages. Oil and filters are a pretty common requirement so most of them should have it.

Typically, even the FNG from where you'll be servicing your car would have such items in stock.

Edit: I missed out the part where you said that your car is 3 years old. If it's still under (extended) warranty, I would recommend going to the Hyundai ASC and letting them handle it. This way you'll keep the warranty intact.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Mobil Super 1000 is a mineral CI4 oil. Plenty of other mineral alternatives in Shell Rimula, Valtrex, Valvoline etc. Or synthetic Mobil Delvac 1 or Amsoil as I said.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My Corolla is due for an oil change and I am in 2 minds on what to get.

Last year I decided to try Liqui Moly 5w-30 Molygen in the car along with Ceratec.

https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This was a semi synthetic oil and not full synthetic. Liqui Moly calls it synthetic technology.

Now I have a few options to try out and I'm kind of confused on which one to go for:

Options:
1. Same Liqui Moly 5w30 Molygen semi synth (ACEA C2 / C3)
2. Amsoil 5w30 A5/B5 Signature series.
3. Idemitsu 5w-40 synthetic https://www.amazon.in/PITZO-IDEMITSU...09ER50RVED5DYK

Option 3 is what Toyota recommends. For mineral OE oil they use 5w30 but their synthetic grade is 5w40. They use Idemitsu as well:
ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil-whatsapp-image-20190226-11.26.54.jpeg

I'm leaning towards Liqui Moly again since I used Ceratec last time with it and can't flush. But the Idemitsu 5w40 is what Toyota guy says works well and he says synthetic 5w30 they don't use.

It's a petrol, right? Try Amsoil 5w30 Signature series. DBHPian R2D2 is really impressed with the Amsoil lube on his Altis.

@Vid6639, I have not used Toyota's synthetic so cannot really comment on that product. But it is the product that got me using a 5W-40 synthetic (SHU) for many years. Changed to Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 and currently on Amsoil Signature. Amsoil gets my vote from the 3 synthetics that I have used. It really seems to suit the 1ZZ-FE engine.

If you prefer 5W-40 you have Motul xCess, SHU and the new Mobil 1 5W-40 as choices.

Yeah I read your post on my Altis thread as well on the Amsoil.

Both my cars run on 5w30. I wanted to try Amsoil in the Ford first and then in Corolla.

For the Ford I just need to order the 1 gallon bottle as it needs 3.6L. For the Toyota its 1gallon + 1quart.

I was thinking of the Idemitsu 5w40 cause I wanted to see how much difference the 5w40 viscosity makes vs the 5w30.

Although 5w30 is less viscous and should work better, my car is usually used in worse of bangalore traffic and higher temps. The manual recommends more viscous 5w40 for hot temps and harsh driving conditions.

Ofcourse its a Toyota so nothing will do any harm between 5w30 and 5w40. Infact thats the reason you can experiment.

What specific rating acea or api that is does your car's manual ask for?

Ford needs a 5w30 a5/b5 if you don't use the Ford spec oil. Not sure what a Toyota needs.

Which is why I'll change to Amsoil for the Ford since currently the Liqui Moly is not A5/B5.

Toyota doesn't specify the ACEA rating just API SM for 5w30 or API SL/SM if 5w40

You will noticeably less valve train clatter with the 5W-40. But here's the catch - Amsoil Signature 5W-30 does that without additives.

The 1ZZ-FE requires 20W-50, 15W-40, 10W-30, 5W-30 viscosities, API SL/SM (or better) ILSAC energy conserving oils.

Amsoil is 5W-30 API SN, Resource Conserving, ACEA A5/B5, and a long drain oil, upto 25K miles/40K kms or 1 year whichever is first. I don't think it gets much better than this.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

My 5 year old Grand i10 will go for it's servicing at a FNG in sometime.

I am using mineral oil till date, and my annual run is 4-5K Kms in the city only.
I have looked through this thread but am unable to decide what to apply for my car.

Should I continue with the Mineral Oil or switch over to Synthetic? Is the cost difference justified? If Yes, please advise on choices for both Synthetic and Mineral Oil.

Hyundai has rated "SAE 5 W 30" on it's website as recommended grade.

Use one of the 5W-30 synthetics that has been mentioned here - Shell Helix HX8, Mobil 1, Idemitsu 5W-30, or Amsoil Signature.

Worth the extra money? NO! Your car will do just fine on mineral and regular oil changes. Synthetic provides superior protection and performance, but it is not compulsory. I fill synthetic because, well, I am a BHPian and a nutter about maintenance. 'Nuff said.

If you want to upgrade the oil I'd recommend using a 5W-30 semi synthetic like Castrol Magnatec, Motul 4100 instead.

Also, instead of the Hyundai website please check the owners manual for the exact grade of oil recommended for YOUR car.

Is that a petrol or a diesel vehicle? If petrol then any reasonable 5w30 should do. Older Hyundai diesels need a 15w40 ch4 or better diesel engine oil like Shell Rimula R4.

I am also in the same situation. Will be getting my i20 petrol 2010 at a FNG. My running is also around 4000-5000kms annually.

I was looking around for various options available.
Mineral Oil was around Rs850-1000 (Don't remember the brand)
Castrol Part Synthetic Oil was around Rs 1300
Whereas the Fully Synthetic one was around Rs 1600.
All were 5W-30.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

^^ My car is used mainly during the weekends and the annual running is below 5000 km, from the very beginning. Thus I have never used synthetic oil, since it has to be changed anyway during the annual service. I always use the Shell Helix HX 7 and find it to be good as well as economical.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

So - an interesting question this guy raises is about oil filters.

Most new cars just have you change the paper type filter element and a new gasket, rather than older cars where there was a big metal cartridge with an internal element, drain back valve etc.
