Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Has anyone used used or heard about this 0W20 fully synthetic oil from Idemitsu- https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B07...8MB9HFEI&psc=1 ?

The price is really attractive and the reviews on amazon seem to be good too. But, I still needed another confirmation if this is really as good as it seems to be especially for the price.

Firstly it is NOT fully synthetic as claimed. Mobile super 3000 also falls in the same category. That should be a better buy. Moreover, please check if 0W20 is ideal for your car.

Don't worry about the 5w30 - it works just fine for light diesels.

If you've got a ton of money to spend try the Amsoil 5w30 Diesel Oil https://www.amazon.in/Signature-Synt.../dp/B07NPCJ587
I can swear by this! Changed oil in my S Cross 1.6 to Mobil esp 5w30 at 50k service. Now the car is at 56k, the last 6k have been the best in terms of driving this car. The engine is delivering probably its best power at low noise/ friction and improved FE. Touch wood!

Idemitsu is the OEM to Honda. We have used it for over 9 years in our Civic. I see no issues here.

Many Hondas for example use 0w20. It is a good oil for the price don’t worry.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

I own a chevrolet spark (MY-2009, Mileage: 50000 k.m). During last service i changed the oil to 5W-30 and was very pleased with the performance. Can i continue with it or should i get back to the recommended 15W-40 oil grade ?

An update to my post- Just got the oil and the filter changed today for my swift petrol. The difference is very much discernible right from the outset, the engine seems to be much more refined particularly at idle than it was previously and performance and acceleration seem to be as good as ever if not better. So, satisfied with the oil as of now, will have to wait and see how it ages throughout the year.

I would really like to understand the 10k km rule and what is the maximum kms you can run your car without an oil change (petrol).

What does the oil change interval for your car say - it should be in your car's user manual? Follow that, and follow that spec of oil. It can be 15,000 or 20,000 km depending on the car, or even a lakh km for some buses and trucks.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Need to get the engine oil changed in my 2014 Grand i10 Petrol, having an annual run of around 5K Kms. It's grade is 5w-30 SM API.

Earlier used mineral oil, but am planning to switch to Semi-synthetic or a Mineral oil from a better brand. Owing to the low usage, do not wish to invest 4k in the best synthetic engine oil.

I have shortlisted :
Motul 4100 Power 5w-30 Semi Synthetic or Shell Helix HX6 Mineral.

Also, am planning to perform an engine flush, and am eyeing "Liqui Moly Engine Oil Flush (200 ml)" for the same.

Any other recommendation or suggestion in both matters?

You need an a3/b4 5w30 and the synthetics in this range are max around 2000 or so

Shell HX8 5w30
Castrol Magnatec Professional 5w30

These seem to be the only ones that fit the bill

You have mentioned magnatec professional 5w30 as a3/b4 but a search on amazon throws up Castrol magnatec stop-start 5w30 as a5/b5. I can't seem to find professional online.

Is there a difference between professional and stop-start? Or is it the same?

My tiago's manual shows magnatec professional as a recommended oil, with the recommended acea rating as a5/b5.

Hope you can understand my confusion.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Sorry my mistake. There is a castrol edge a3b4 5w30. Magnatec Professional is only sold to dealerships in bulk.

This is also a3b4 5w30 and looks good Liqui Moly Leichtlauf HC7 5W-30 ACEA A3,ACEA B4 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil (4 L) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B078GDLD64/..._2j-SDbY73E13F

Ah, okay. Do you know if professional and stop-start are the same oil, but different branding, one being for dealerships and the other for consumer?

Please dont use an engine flush. It is not needed especially if you change oil at recommended intervals.
