I have misplaced my owners manual hence I'm not sure as to what it recommends.
It won't matter as much, just change the oil in 5-6 thousand km and you should be ok, don't try to stretch this one to 10k km.

Should I shift to 5W30 or stick to 5W40. I guess there is not much of a difference, but would rather chose the best one and stick to it.
n'th time that I posted about this on this thread even with links to the Hyundai customer care site OK let me repeat.

Diesel Verna prior to 2018 - 15w40 CH4 or higher. Or feel free to go for a synthetic 5w40 diesel spec like CH4/CI4/CJ4/CK4 - Mobil 1 Delvac is CI4+ 5w40 and Amsoil Turbo Truck is CK4 5w40, both will do fine.

Diesel Verna after 2018 - 5w30 a3/b4 not a5/b5 and most 5w30 oils on the market are a5/b5. Shell Helix HX8 5w30 and Shell Helix Taxi 5w30 are a3b4 oils so use those for a post 2018 Verna.

Actually this was precisely my confusion. Whether the spec for diesel verna post 2018 should be followed for those pre 2018, given there is no synthetic oil spec for the older cars.

I guess will stick to Delvac for now..

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hi everyone,
I am going to change engine oil in my 2014 Honda City iVTEC (4th gen). Till now, services are done only by Honda. This time, I want to do it by myself at home due to COVID-19 precaution. All other parts like Air filter, oil filter and plug washer will be procured from Boodmo. Current engine oil I suppose is Honda synthetic (not 2.0) and is sourced from Idemitsu (correct me if wrong). 0W-20 full synthetic oil will be filled.

I have gone through a couple of options online @ current ₹ as following:
1. Mobil Super 3000 (3.5L) @ ₹1610
2. Castrol Magnatec stop-start (3.5L) @ ₹1783
3. Idemitsu (3.5L) @ ₹2099
4. Shell Helix HX8 (3.5L) @ ₹1959

Premium priced, less chances of going for them.
5. AMSOIL OE (3.78L) @ ₹2800
6. AMSOIL XL (3.78L) @ ₹3000
7. Idemitsu Zepro (3.5L)@ ₹3870

For reference,
8. Honda Synthetic (3.6L) @ ₹1602
9. Honda Synthetic 2.0 (3.6L) @ ₹2340

Your opinion will be appreciated.
I am more inclined towards #1 & #2 for their price and stop start protection respectively.

Usage: Car is used mostly in city of Ludhiana and Faridabad + occasional highway runs between the two cities. But currently due to COVID-19 and work from home, I barely drive, so will be coming months. So, this less usage is also the reason for interest in #1 oil.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Need your help guys.

I have a Toyota Innova V 2010 diesel model. It has completed 2,40,000 KM's and 10.5 Yrs.

I have attached a picture from the manual which shows the oils that we can use. For our temperature range( We live in Mumbai) 20w-50 oil can be used.

I have read on the forum and on google as well but could not find any answer for old Innova. I am confused which oil should be used as some say 20w-50 will be too viscous.

But some say for older vehicles its best. Even castrol website says for vehicles with more than 75,000 miles, 20w-50 is recommended.

Kindly provide your suggestion as to which one should be used.

If you go to Toyota service centres they’ll fill 15w40 mineral or 5w30 synthetic and both will do just fine for your car if the oil is changed as per service intervals.

If you’re doing your own oil changes just get a 15w40 mineral like Shell Rimula R4 or similar.

Thanks! I wanted to know especially since the car has done 2,40,000 km now and is running about 100 -120 km daily, will 20w-50 have any significant advantage?

We usually change oil at every 10,000 or 11,000 km. Lately the engine has been making a lot of noise since last 1 year. We will not be going to service center as they are charging too much, we will get the servicing done at local garage.

He usually used Castrol brand. Regarding other brands , I will have to find out.

If you’re filling mineral change out at max 7500 km especially if you are doing this 100-120 on city or suburban roads. As for noise get it investigated as to just what is causing it.

Going thicker will make the car quieter but at the same time it'll make the car slower.

A good engine oil of the same viscosity you're using will reduce the sound( experienced it but I can't explain why).I suggest you to procure high quality oil and give it to the FNG for replacement. Don't exceed Toyota recommended intervals.

Noise could also be due to partially blocked injectors which will also have symptoms such as more vibrations and lower fuel efficiency. If this is so, check out the fuel additives thread, add your choice additive into the tank before a long high speed drive(Liqui Moly Diesel Purge is supposed to be good). Ensure the car gets only clean and pure diesel.

Your Innova has barely run-in

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

The new Jeep Compass BS6 4x4 AT requires 0w20 ACEA C2 engine oil. Any recommendations for the right oil for this car. I could not find anything in my search therefore asking on this thread.

The official recommendation is FCA Material Standard 9.55535-DSX
and ACEA C2 and it mentions the Selenia WR Forward 0w20 oil.

Amazon has several acea c2 5w30 which won’t hurt in hotter weather like in India

Or try this roughly equivalent acea c5

0w20 Mobil 1 ESP X2 0W20 Advanced Full Synthetic Engine Oil (1L) https://www.amazon.in/dp/B01M27YIJW/..._Fp0vFb1D34VBG

Re: ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Hello All,

I chanced to see this thread when researching on mineral vs synthetic oil advantages for my upcoming oil change. I have a 2009 Scorpio which I intend to keep for another 4 years. I have done 1,15,000 kms. But my current daily usage these days is barely 5 kms a day.

So I need to ask you if I should go for a mineral or synthetic oil? And what should be frequency of oil change when the car hardly does around 1500 kms a year?

Thanks in advance...

I came across a good discussion by experts from global Oil majors on oil viscosities. This cleared a lot of doubts for me. Posting the link below for the benefit of people like me here.

Their argument is that in general alot of diesels that see commercial use runs on 15W40 however the temperature they operate in may need a thinner oil to help in cold start.

Their argument would have been better if they had tested oil pressure in critical wear areas of the engine under the same usage conditions because once the engine is pulling 20 tons up a gradient the outside weather don't matter much nor does the winter weight.

The company supplied oil seems to work just fine it's inexpensive and recommended. Change it once a year and always use original oil filter.

Ps: Low running of that sort is not good for diesels.

I agree but my usage changed drastically after moving. I did close to 85k kms in the 1st 5 years of ownership. And I intend to keep it for the full 15 years as its been trouble free so far

That is fine, stick to Maximile Feo or any good 15w40 mineral like Shell Rimula R4 and change every year. Try to take the car out on a highway ride or late night ride of some sort on a regular basis, no need to get out of the car or anything but drive around and keep the engine healthy and yourself entertained.
