ARTICLE: Synthetic oil vs Mineral oil

Engine Flush is recommended when shifting from Mineral to Synthetic oil.
It just depends on the condition of the car engine if the flush will cause any seal to fail, My lancer had a clutch seal fail when I first flushed it, and the next time I did thereafter No issues.

You could also try Semi-Synthetic Castrol Magnatec, Its a better option than conventional Mineral with benefits of Synthetic.

Thats what I said "Recommended"...not Necessary...!

But A flush should be done ocassionally to ensure a clean and sludge free engine.

I saw ur car at the Yelagiri meet.
Has it completed 5000-10000 kms ?Its recommended U switch only after completing the mentioned mileage for proper run-in.

Thanks Akshay. I was in a dilemma between shell helix and mobil. Lot of us are happy with mobil 1 supersyn 5w50. Will fo for that.

any idea about Mobil Synt S 5W-40 . I am using Mobil 1. Its time to change and hence came across this at the shop. It costs 2850Rs for 3 lit. And Xing needs just 3 lit right?

I wouldn't suggest 5W-40.
5W50 is better or best.

Guys, are there any synthetic oils available from Petronas ??? I have seen a board for petronas dealer near Kothrud flyover in Pune.

Yes, i too have seen the synthetic oil boards...Petron is a Fortune 500 company...but i suggest you stick to Mobile 1 (that too only 5W-50 with SuperSync)...really good & only positive reports about it!

bro forget the extremely hot conditions if one is willing to drive the car at higher rpms during which the engine heat is on the higher side dont you think one should still use the higher grade spec oil (even in winter) (i mean 5w50or 10w50 or 20w50)?

Santro Xing requires 3.5 litres of Engine oild to be precise.

I did have a look at the OHC manual and 10W-40 is suggested along with 20W-50. so i think it should be safe to use 10W-40.
