Can i mix two different brands of synthetic motor oils? For example can i mix Shell ultra helix with Mobil1 or Castrol Edge?

I have a 1 liter pack of Shell Ultra and i can't find this stuff anywhere here in Trivandrum, but a Castrol dealer is willing to get me the Edge if i place the order. I need only three liters of oil for my bike.

I googled a bit got the information that if the API rating matches it can be done without any ill effects.

Also found out that SJ SM SL... etc stands for engine oils intended for spark ignition engines and CJ CM CL... etc stands for compression ignition engines.

Still not very sure about mixing oils though.

Where in Hyderabad can I get Mobil1?

I went all over Ranigunj & RP Road but all the automotive stores there said they dint have Mobil or haven't heard of it.

There is no info on the Mobil India website either & their toll free number does not answer.

I finally figured it out.

Lubricants

They are the dealers for Mobil in Hyderabad & I got mine from them this morning. They told me the oil is also available at all Ford showroom.

I got the Mobil 1 Supersyn 5W-50.

I shall go over to Mody Ford & get it changed.

I reckon the bullet will happily take it.(U've put the oil in the bullet, right?)
Doubts should arise with very very modern sensitive engines.

My swift petrol has done 50K+. Untill now I have been using mineral oil. Is it advisable to make a shift to synthetic oil? What about engine flushing? Does it have any drawback? My next oil change is at 52k...

@ Sunny- GTX is not synthetic...you can try Delvac also..! Most Genuine Oils are available all across Delhi like in Sec 16 Noida, Khan Market, Batra Auto-Ashram, Kashmiri Gate.

I get Magnatec filled each time on an Oil change, although the service station has only Mobil. Just bring it and ask them to fill this, You ofcourse buy the Oil filter and other service from them, I don't think they would have any issue.

@ Real Swifter- No major issues with flushing, but you need to be careful since flush was not done earlier, You may have a failed seal ..." May "...My lancer gave away the Main Clutch seal on a similar Odo reading in the first ever engine flush, but after that I have flushed on each oil change, No issues.

Try STP or OWS engine flush will cost you around Rs 190 MRP.

Hello,
A drift away from Engine Oil's of Cars to Engine Oil's Bikes. As some of you might already know, i gained a lot of trust in Shell and became a fan of it. Now coming to story, I saw them selling Shell Advance engine oil for bikes at their Shell Select store and i took it. It was a 900+100 Ml bottle and came with MRP 137/- which is cheaper than Castrol or other brands available here (around Rs 150).

I don't rev the engine hard. I got it for Victor and Splendor and i drive quite steady and take pretty good care of my bikes and cars. Now the question is regarding the drain interval. When should i change the oil for the bikes again? The next service is usually about another 5K Kms.

I saw something about Long Drain oils in this thread. Can someone highlight if the same points are valid for engine oils for bikes also?

Thanks.

@Mods: If this needs to be moved to Motorbikes forum, please do it. Thanks in Advance.

i went and enquired at a lubricant shop, they told castrol edge is not a synthetic oil. is it true ?

also for the mobil 1, they are quoting abot 900 per liter. shell is about 800 per liter. i was planning to change to synthetic on my baleno since i have completed 35K...

pls let me know what grade i need to use for the baleno and which is better ??

thanks.

Castrol EDGE is definitely synthetic and the flagship lubricant product of Castrol.
Team NK racing uses this oil in the Formula Rolon racing cars.
900 per litre of Mobil1 is high. houldn't be more than 800.
