Infact my car has run 66K kms and it was at 60K that i changed the oil to synthetic.
Ill keep track of it for my next oil change at 70K kms.

Mobil-1 / Shell Helix Ultra / Castrol Edge ?

Castrol Magnetec - Looks like this is not fully synthetic? sorry but I see some mixed opinions on this. :(

Which would be good VFM ? Castrol Edge ?

Also 10Wxx / 5Wxx option is good for Bangalore or 0Wxx better and not a problem?

10Wxx is a better bet. Anything lower (esp. 0Wxx) will be really thin and since viscosity is very low you might have to check oil level and keep topping up regularly.

0Wxx is recommended for extremely cold places. Not for bangy surely.

Sorry for not reading this long thread in toto, but can anyone tel me as to which is the most suited synthetic oil brand for Ford Fiesta 1.6 SXi petrol?? grade, etc;?? I do know about Mobil1. But any other brand besides Mobil?
Also do i need to flush the engine before shifting to synthetic oil? the car has clocked about 21000 kms in two years. Please advice.

Another synthetic oil option is Petronas Syntium. I enquired about this in Vashi almost a month back. I was quoted a price of Rs. 750/- per litre. Do not have any idea about the viscosity rating of this oil.

As fas as I know PETRONAS cost Rs 600 per litre ( Sythetic oil) not sure if its Syntium or not.
If you want I shall fine out & confirm the rates too.

Arrey yaar Dhaval. All your questions are answered already. Just read a few pages na.

1. Stick to manufacturer recommended grade of engine oil. If manual says 15W50 stick to the same grade when switching to synth oil.

2. Apart from Mobil1 you can opt for Shell Synthetic.

3. Engine flush is definitely recommended while switching to synth oil.

Not the Shell 15W50 thats replaced by the 5W40.

The 15W50 or 20W50 or 10W40 is acually dependent on where you will use the car.
If you stay in Leh 0W30 should be best.
If you are in Pune 20W50 will do. For Delhi 15W50 is best

Obviously if the recommended grade is not available one would have to choose what's available in the market (next equivalent grade).

Shell 15W50 synthetic is still available. I sourced it from a Shell bunk in Chennai a month or two back. The website still has 15W50 synthetic displayed.

Tanveer, I can't think of one oil company marketing 20W50 synthetic oil. Btw, The Mobil1 monkeys are distributing 0W40 to A.S.S' all over Madras.

. Even I was suggested 0Wxx by a popular tire dealer in chennai, since there was no other grade of Mobil1 being supplied. Opted for Shell instead.

Owners manual recommends the use of semi-synthetic engine oil only, of a viscosity of SAE 5W-30. So now does that mean i should use fully synthetic oil of the same viscosity?

Hypothetically yes. But synth oil is not available in 5W30 grade. Tanveer has mentioned that 20W50 will do fine for Pune.

Shell synthetic 5w50 can also be an option here. Its important to know what the numerals that precede and supercede the "W" mean.
