Opus launches 37 kilo book on Formula 1 @ Rs. 1.7 lakh

Opus launches 37 kilo book on Formula 1 @ Rs. 1.7 lakh-opus-1.jpg

Opus and RK Global launch the "Formula 1 Opus" book in India. At half a meter square, 852 pages long and weighing in at 37 kg, the "Official Formula 1 Opus" is the biggest & heaviest publication ever on Formula One.

Each edition is hand-bound in leather and silk. The book includes a collection of pictures and stories on the history of F1. The Classic Edition is priced at £2,000. There will be a limited number of 100 "Champion Editions" which will feature a signature page signed by every living world champion driver. This edition will be clad in a black carbon-fibre clamshell case and will be offered for £20,000.

In addition, bidding commenced today for the Serial Number 1 copy of the book. The Number 1 copy will be signed by VIPs from the world of Formula 1. It will ultimately return to Delhi to be auctioned for a collection of charities during the 2013 Grand Prix weekend. The Number 1 copy will have a starting bid of $100,000.

Alternatives:

- Buy an iPad, save $$$ and surf / read / watch videos on everything Formula 1.

- Invest the 1.7 lakhs and with the returns, go watch the Indian GP every year

- Go drive a Formula car on the track. Several one-day programs available in Asia & Europe.

It makes a wonderful gift for enthusiasts if there is some kind of low-cost version available, in book form or electronic copy. Is there any???

What I am wondering about it is whether it has already set a record of some kind of being the heaviest or costliest book.

Otherwise we would have to definitely think of the alternatives which have been aptly laid out by GTO.
Actually all of them!!!

Wow! Sounds like the announcement that is made when a boxer/wrestler enters the ring!

Another option would be to invest the above amount in a decent projection system at home, connect it to a laptop and surf / read / watch videos on Formula One!

PS : Apart from the price one would pay for the book, one should also consider the salary of the assistant(s) who would be handling the 37 kg book!

Buying yourself a 50" Plasma TV
55 thousand rupees.

This book on PDF
Free.

Knowing that you can watch F1 at the flick of a button
Exciting.

Not having to look like an F1 nerd with a 37kg book
Priceless!

That sounds like the spec of a book published in 17th century, where the books were made to order for libraries, Kings & other nobles and it too many years to complete.

Actually 2 are required. In fact 2 assistants were employed to turn the pages in those times !

PS: Had read that SRK (Khan) has already got the book & SRT (Tendulkar) is in the queue.

Coffee-tables beware!

Not only will you need to beef up your car's suspension for those twisties, you'll need to beef-up your coffee-table. And if you're daft enough to spend 1.7 lakhs on a book, you'll be daft enough to buy a mahogany table and probably even have a spot-light focused on it.

But then again, you'd be daft (actually rich) enough to drive your car straight into your house, park it in your living room, step out and watch some TV while the slaves bring you some hot coffee and wet-wipes. Oh, and the book too!

Re: Opus launches 37 kilo book on Formula 1 @ Rs. 1.7 lakh

Well, not a good idea to release such a heavy and costly paper book in this digital age. Anyways, it makes a good collectors item for those having 1.7 Lac and more importantly a drawer to accommodate this size of book!

Having the autograph of Formula One Racing bigwigs like Bernie Ecclestone is highly expected at this price tag. But I understand to fail whats the purpose of having autograph of Gul Panag, Harbhajan Singh and Omar Abdullah on an F1 book? I know Gul Panag is fond of biking, even while marrying the "barat" came on bikes and bullets, but that do not make justice to an F1 fan!
