Mahindra Racing has entered into a strategic partnership with Italian design house Pininfarina and Tech Mahindra to develop the new M5Electro Formula E race car for season 5 of the Formula E Championship. The FIA Formula E Championship is the world's first all-electric, single-seater street racing series.



Pininfarina will also be the sponsor of the Mahindra Racing Formula E team. This will enable the team leverage Pininfarina's design and technological expertise. The team will also have access to Pininfarina's testing facilities in Italy including their wind tunnel to further develop their race car's aerodynamics. Additionally, Pininfarina will also be involved in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) work and help Mahindra develop new electric cars for the road.

Pininfarina has been working in the field of aerodynamics and aero-acoustics research and development since 1972. Over the years, the company's design arm has created numerous passenger cars and sports cars for well-known brands. In 2015, the Mahindra Group acquired Pininfarina. Along with Tech Mahindra, the company controls 76% stake in the Italian design house.
