Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

The latest season is the best till date. Nicely developed around the season. The earlier ones were a bit superficial, this they made it just right. The penultimate episode is a must watch.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

The latest season, in my opinion, is the most boring season of the 3. Apart from the "Man on Fire" episode the rest were just meh. All the juicy bits of the season were just glossed over. The George Russel performance in the Mercedes was just a footnote. There were some bits of episodes that I just forwarded.

Ultimately like one of the episodes states "Cash is King".

Not surprised by the lack of buzz created by DTS S4 especially on TBHP. This series is solely aimed at getting new audience interested in F1. The more you start following F1, the more you are aware of the dramatization in DTS. Although you do enjoy the BTS videos.

I am actually happy with this approach and hope this helps growing the sport in India as well. Netflix India has also collaborated with Tanmay Bhat to create Youtube content for the same.

There are a couple of reviews here (The TV / Streaming shows thread (no spoilers please)).

It's been just a few days since the new season is out, give it time!

Also, several drivers and teams, mainly Verstappen, have refused to be a part of the new season. Or reduced the amount of exposure / insights they've previously allowed.

That said, I really feel for Guenther. His F1 life is just one crisis after another.

Bang on. I used to be oblivious to F1 until this show's Season 1 came along in Netflix.

A similar thing happened for me with Vlad Yudin's "Generation Iron" documentary sometime (2013 I think); I used to be oblivious to the world of bodybuilding. And then this brilliant documentary dramatized the struggles faced by top bodybuilders vying for the Mr.Olympia title. Just like that, I was sucked into following bodybuilding for entertainment/drama for another 6 years! I knew nothing of bodybuilding and know nothing of F1, but I still enjoy following the human drama here.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

The added exposure is a great thing to increase F1 viewership.

Cant figure out why the some drivers/teams are not participating fully.
No need to take it so seriously.

For regulars like ourselves, its nice to see what the drivers/bosses get upto during the summer break and behind the scenes.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

I love Drive to Survive series for the focus it brings on the lower order teams and their struggles. Quite often those back markers don't get as much attention during the races as the front runners or even the mid fielders.
Case in point the Williams saga and how it has fallen on tough times compared to its glory days. Or of course the Haas team.
Yes the series is sprinkled with some drama but as mentioned earlier, it is meant to bring in new viewers to the sport. This was quite evident by the huge attendance at the last years Austin grand prix.

Re: Drive to survive: Netflix's new F1 documentary series

Binge watched the complete 4 seasons and I'm perplexed about my changed affinities.

I disliked Hamilton and Wolff and considered them to be arrogant but after watching the series, I detest Max and Horner more!
[bias alert] Max clearly doesn't prefer clean racing as much as Hamilton and Horner is more in to mind games. I loved when I saw Max beat Hamilton live last year but when watching the series, I felt unhappy at the turn of events. Seemed Hamilton was robbed. Dunno why this crisscross of emotions.

I'm a hardcore Ferrari fan, so after a couple of pathetic years with a slow car, I hope Charles wins this year. The car seems fastest on the block so far.

Can't wait for this weekend.
