MAI National Touring Car Championship launched: Edit: Regulations posted

As promised on This thread, India's first ever National Touring Car Championship was officially announced today.

Here is the press release highlighting the classes running, the titles on offer and a few brief details:

June 27th 2007

"MRF International Challenge" will be a festival of speed with both Indian and foreign competitors vying for International and Indian titles.

Two rounds are scheduled in 2007, both to be organised at the Kari Memorial Speedway in Coimbatore. The first round is scheduled on August 26, 2007 and the second round on December 16th 2007.

The Touring Car Championship is extremely popular across the world, and is sure to set the pulse racing in India as well. The cars appeal to the public as they are based on street cars which are sold in the market, hence the spectator can relate to the cars racing on the circuit, each with their own brand to support.

The titles to be won are:

Four-wheelers:
• MAI Asian Zone National Touring Car Champion
• MAI Indian National Touring Car Champion
• MAI Indian National Touring Car Champion – Group N 1450cc
• MAI Indian National Touring Car Champion – Super 2000
• MAI Indian National Touring Car Champion – Super 1600
• MAI Indian National Touring Car Champion – Indian Open

In four -wheelers the categories are:
• Asian GT Class
• Asian 1600 Saloon class
• Indian Open upto 1600cc Turbocharged
• Turbo 2000 - Turbocharged Indian Cars
• Super 2000 Naturally Aspirated Indian Cars
• Super 1600 Naturally Aspirated Indian Cars
• Upto 1450cc Group N Naturally Aspirated Indian Cars

MRF Challenge Trophies: Two-wheelers categories:
• 2 stroke Indian bikes Group C 160cc.
• 4 stroke Indian bikes Group B 250 cc.
• Foreign bikes upto 600cc.
• Foreign bikes upto 1000cc.

MRF tyres will be control tyres for the Asian four wheeler classes. "Indian made" tyres can be used for the Indian category cars giving other manufacturers a platform to compete with the best in India.

Over 100 competitors are expected to participate in this prestigious competition. In the Asian Zone category the AMRC (Asian Motor Racing Club) of Sri Lanka has confirmed participation of 12 GT cars, with a mix of Mitsubishi EVO9 and Subaru cars.

Of interest will be the introduction of the Formula MRF 1600 cars later this year. The cars will be built on the lines of the internationally popular Formula Ford 1600 by J.Anand of Jaya Automobiles, Coimbatore at the MRF Powerhouse in Chennai. The prototype will be ready for testing by October 1, 2007.

MRF Limited will be the title sponsor for the event. MAI (Motorsports Association of India) will handle the four-wheeler category and FMSCI (Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India) regulations will apply for the two-wheeler section. The organiser of the "MRF International Challenge" is Bhathena & Associates of Mumbai.

Update: 27th July: Regulations have been added.

Will the rally Esteems be competetive in any of the categories? Maybe with just tire chage and dropping ride height, you can go from rally to race.

I guess this was one of the initiatives of this series too. To see if they could rope in some rally boys as well. Atleast I remember reading a rule which says even rally prepared cars are allowed to go on. Would love to see the Fiesta's on track though.
