MotoGP Bharat | Indian Grand Prix | 22nd - 24th September, 2023

According to a media report, MotoGP is all set to come to India in 2023. An official announcement regarding this is expected to be made later this month.

The report states that Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports, will make the announcement and will also share details of the full race weekend. The Indian leg will include Moto2, Moto3 and the premier class of bike racing 'MotoGP'.

Dorna Sports is also planning to bring the MotoE electric motorcycle racing series to India. It is said that the first MotoE race could be held in India as early as the end of 2022.

The Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida is the most likely candidate to host MotoGP in India. However, we will have to wait for an official confirmation from the organizers.

Indeed a great news. Budh circuit biggest drawback being far from international airport. It's a logistic nightmare to get everything from gurgaon to greater noida. Zevar airport will give tremendous boost to the circuit to hold more international events in the future.

Be interesting to see if govt considers this as a form of entertainment to tax or as a form of sport. We know why F1 won't return.

This is good, atleast that track can be put to some good use. This would mean the track would be maintained every year once more as MotoGP is a global event and the current track conditions are appalling.

This also means I now have to start watching MotoGP after watching F1 for so many years. Hopefully, the attendance should be good, it’s one thing to watch it on television and another to witness it live, the intensity and the sound of the engines makeup for everything. Also, who knows maybe we see F1 cars in that empty pit lane again!

While it would be awesome to have MotoGP in India, I dont have a hope for this happening as soon as 2023/ 2024.

Considering the costs associated with Dorna, we need to be getting into a multi-year contract to host MotoGP for at least 3 years in a row. And not to forget the support from Sports Ministry/ Govt and the tax row which decimated hosting F1.

+1

They will hold talks about the feasibility etc etc Hosting Moto GP here is already a big mountain to climb but sustaining it is another ball game altogether.

Even if it happens (hope it does) I fear it will go the Formula 1 way sooner rather than later.

Cheers

2023/2024 rollout sounds a bit too optimistic for MotoGP. Maybe MotoE is plausible. Currently MotoGP already has 20 races in a season, which according to many experts is already pushing the limit for the number of races that can be practically held each year. The only feasible option in this scenario is if one of these 20 races is replaced with the Indian one. However, that is unlikely, as all the venues have already been declared and Dorna has signed 2/3 year contracts with these venues for the said races.

They will have one chat with the the f1 people, and they won't touch BIC with a barge pole.
Pity, though. It's a wonderful track layout. They even managed some elevation changes, which always makes for a dramatic effect.

F1 ticket prices are insane globally, partly because of the fee FIA charges. Don't know about Moto Sport but I think Entertainment tax and fee would be the only hurdles. We have the infra to host such an event and this could open the doors for an F1 return this decade.

Both BCCI and IPL are tax free/exempted.

Why cant motorsports be?

Govt cant be biased towards only one sport which is cricket.

re: MotoGP Bharat | Indian Grand Prix | 22nd - 24th September, 2023

It is a fantastic news. Sources close to FMSCI and Ducati India say it is very much possible. But realistically 2024.

The main reason for F1 leaving was the Uttar Pradesh government then. I genuinely believe the current government is at least not that rudimentary. They have supported more sports in general. I think this time if GP comes it will stay for sometime.

As a trackday enthusiast who does trackdays in BIC i can say it will be spectacular. The track layout in general, the super long straight, the parabola, turn 15 all are recipe for some amazing racing. More importantly we will see the track getting resurfaced. It will get out laptimes by a second or two for free.

So really really hopeful. Bring this on.

It was never a logistics issue. It was purely a political issue to close the races at BIC because of close proximity of the promoters with a certain party. If this circuit was in Gujrat or some other state it would have been running fine.

- Grand Prix of Bharat be held at the Buddh International Circuit.

- Organisers targeting 2023 debut

Quote:
MotoGP organiser Dorna Sports and Noida-based Fairstreet Sports have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for seven years to bring the championship here
Quote:
Dorna Sports’ Managing Director Carlos Ezpeleta said it was a “no-brainer” for MotoGP to come to India given that it is the world’s largest two-wheeler market.

2024 would be a more realistic slot given that the BIC still needs to be homologated by the FIM (Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme).

re: MotoGP Bharat | Indian Grand Prix | 22nd - 24th September, 2023

MotoGP is all set to debut in India next year and our ‘exclusive’ has been officially confirmed by Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Executive Office, Dorna, through a press conference. Dorna Sports in association with Fairstreet Sports has announced the First-ever Motorcycling ‘Grand Prix of Bharat’ for India.

To be called as Bharat Grand Prix, it will be held at the Formula 1 track of Buddh Internation Circuit (BIC) in Greater Noida with participation from 19 countries. Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Executive Office, Dorna says India was a “no-brainier” given the rising interest in #MotoGP. Adds, India is where all manufacturers competing in the series already have a big focus.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for seven years between Fairstreet Sports Pvt Ltd and Dorna as the latter is actively working with other state governments to promote motorcycling culture in India.

As per Industry Experts and economic analysts, the Bharat Grand Prix will generate around 50,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect jobs during the race weekend. MotoGP also has plans to introduce MotoE into the Indian racing scenario which will be a first in Asia. This was also revealed by News18 team a few days back in our exclusive piece.

Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Thakur during the meeting with FSS team opined - “It’s a historical day for the sporting and automobile industry and a befitting tribute to the Azadai Ka Amrit Maha Utsav celebrations, marking India’s befitting arrival in the global platform of Auto Sports. He further opined that India could potentially be one of MotoGp’s biggest markets in terms of viewership as well as revenue."
