My real name is Joseph. And you are Ashvin right? You are a navigator in the RSC class.

Just to let you know, before you jump to conclusions. I have not participated in the INRC ever. Infact I take part in TSD events only.

No issues dude.

Just a query to you Ashvin. Is the carburetor in the RSC esteems stock or are performance carb's allowed?

Good to see valid points being put for both sides of the carb vs mpfi esteem debate. I was sure I wanted a mpfi esteem earlier but now I need to do one more round of research before I can decide. And NOS Power and Desmoquattro, thanks for sharing, since you guys are in the rally circuit, I know you speak from experience. NOS Power, your Indo Bhutan rally report was a good read, gave me idea on what to expect

Let me see if I understand correctly:

Carb Esteem:
PROS
- can compete in RSC
- cars slightly cheaper to buy
- entry fee less Rs 5000
- good amount of competition in the RSC cup?
CONS
- won't be able to compete with them after 1-2 years in any race?
- cars will be older and associated aging problems like rust etc
- tuning is more of an effort

MPFI Esteem:
PROS
- cheaper, easier to tune, maintain
- will be compete with it for atleast the next 3-5 years
- also good amount of competition in 1400 class
- car will be slightly newer
CONS
- won't be able to compete in RSC

I'm almost sure i want an MPFI, the only thing holding me back is I also want to compete in RSC. But I guess, if the 1400 class offers a similar level of competition, then it makes sense to go for that!

I kinda got sucked into that little thing called work... so I'm going to start my car search this weekend.

Ever since I started this thread, I have been getting PM's like these below.

******************

This is Rajan. Could you please tell me where i can find the details about the rallying stuff (participating in rallies, costs involved, etc). I had lots of interest before, but could not get details about the races and other stuffs, so lost interest, but after seeing your post thought you might be able to help me out on this.

I live in B'lore, and i tried searching here, could get only the official link, but there also i could not get many details that i wanted to know about.

Please mail me at maharajanr@gmal.com if you are not able to PM me.

******************

I know you as HORN_OK_PLZ from Team Bhp.
Am a great follower of Team Bhp's website, i look into it everyday for new posts.

Though, am a member am unable to access all the privilieges of it.
Well, keeping these things aside.

Bro can you lemme know the details of how you got into rallying as even am very much interested.
Dunno if there are many more people bugging you this way

I have been put up in bangalore
So, can you please guide me whom to approach here in bangalore and do you have numbers or mail Id's very active members of team bhp ???

As i also want to start my career, please help me out.

****************************

To you guys who want to get into rallying but don't know how/where to start... welcome to the club! I'm the last person to be giving advice since I'm a *couch rallyist* still

AFAIK, there is not a 'Rallying for Dummies' book that has all the answers. Team BHP is the best place in terms of existing posts on the forums. I have learned so much just by reading the other posts. And there are so many experienced members here who are part of the rally scene. Just ask them!!

* Read actual rally reports to know what it takes, before and in the rally:

- Saurabh M's Indo Bhutan Rally report in a esteem
http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ly-2010-a.html

- Sideways, Raid-De-Himalaya 2006 report in a Scorpio

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travel...-pictures.html

- Saurabh M's report on how he prepared his esteem

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/modifi...ce-esteem.html

First, you have to be sure that you want to do it and you need a little bit of cash saved up. From there you take it step by step and learn as you go.
