My Bike passes 30K, need suggestions to please it.

My Pulsar 150cc just crossed 30K kms yesterday.
I am not sure why I am so excited as if I completed a major milestone in my life.
Just to give an idea, I use my Pulsar mostly for office commute and use my car for weekend commute.
Its a 150cc bought around 4 years before, and was not used regularly for a long time.
I keep giving it for service with my local mechanic every month.

I would like to know for those who passed 30K in Pulsar what is the mileage that you are getting now?

But anyway coming to the point, I would like suggestion from you all on how I can celebrate this.

I am looking for a overhauld kind of thing to be given to the bike as a treat on its birthday.
Or are there any other ways by which I can please my bike...
Waiting for suggestions

De carb the engine using engine flush
Clean the carb using carb spray

Don't know how necessary these are on your bike though, let's see what others have to say about it.

Congrats on the 30k ownership.

My 2004 Pulsar 180 (not mine now, sold it last Thursday) with 61k+ on odo (no idea how long it was driven without speedometer cable) gave me average of 54kmpl with 50-50 city and highway driving.

+1 to Deeps suggestion
Check the clutch plates, brake shoes & pads, Battery top up and finally post few snaps of the beauty

All the best.

congrats!!

engine oil : you can switch fully synthetic
engine as such : i would not advise you do anything to it unless its troubling you

as others said-
change of clutch plates : if you are feeling the bike is little sluggish this can definitely work wonders
ofcourse a nice wash and waxing should make her really happy!!

Re: My Bike passes 30K, need suggestions to please it.

xingamazon : Congratulations! It's a milestone indeed! Not easy to clock even 3k kms on our roads and live to tell the tale with whats happening around town.

Suggestions to please it: Considering that you give her for a service regularly, I recommend a good buff job with some detailing to restore the paint/chrome to a factory finish and you can add aftermarket fogs to the crash guard if you travel (as a gift..) or a GPS, or a central locking kit, or a.. the list is endless, what's the budget?

Re: My Bike passes 30K, need suggestions to please it.

Here is what I'd get done,

1) New fork oil
2) Carb overhaul
3) Stiffen the rear Shocks
4) New Air Filter and oil Filter
5) Ignition/ valve timing setting
6) Tappet valve clearance setting
7) New clutch plates (If needed)
8) Polish and a wax
9) Engine Flush.

regards

Good list there by motorpsycho. To add to that, I would suggest

1. Changing the Clutch and Accelerator cables. If the cables are recently replaced, get them flushed.

2. Change Head/Tail light bulbs.

3. New chain sprocket set if not replaced so far

4. New disc pads along with new brake shoe for drums

5. New Clutch Plates along with pressure plate

6. New Spark plug

7. New Air filter. Oil filter should be changed with every Oil Change.

8. New Seat cover

These should assure a really smooth ride.

Re: My Bike passes 30K, need suggestions to please it.

All you guys thanks a lot for the superb list of suggestions.

Its not possible this week. I will try taking her to the Bajaj Service Center coming weekend and get the quote for most of the suggestions.

Later on based on the quote I will take a call.

Had a doubt is there some thread on what is the meaning of the following suggestion:
1. New chain sprocket set if not replaced so far
2. Carb overhaul
3. Tappet valve clearance setting
4. Engine Flush
5. Ignition/ valve timing setting

I do understand other suggestion only the above are something that I dont know...

Off Topic: All this while I was thinking I know everything about the bikes and only car was new and thats why I joined this forum.
Dint realize there were so many things about bikes that I dint know

Indeed TBHP is a treasure trove of infor about automotives.

My answers in bold,

It refers to the chain and the toothed sprocket replacement.

2. Carb overhaul
The carburetor is opened up and thoroughly cleaned , the carb has jets and passageways in them which get clogged in time they need to be cleaned or replaced(jets)

3. Tappet valve clearance setting
The clearance between rocker arm and the valve needs to be set , as they tend to wear out and clerance between them needs to be set.

4. Engine Flush
Over the years the engine accumulates sludge which clogs up the filter and can get into the bearings and gears, the engine is flushed with a special liquid called engine flush

5. Ignition/ valve timing setting

Ignition
The time at which the spark plug sparks is called ignition timing , it is measured in degrees TDC( Top dead center) , the company recommends that the ignition must take place at a certain degrees before TDC , over the years due to use and vibration the ignition timings get altered, so this need to be set , its a very simple job.

valve timing setting

The valves are operated by cams and which in turn by a chain/push rod , this timing also gets out of sync due to the same reasons mentioned above.
Cheers

Agreed its a simple option, But preventive maintenance is the best way to go for a longer trouble free ride.
