re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

I doubt it will be a 150cc 22PS machine. But let's see. I would get that bike if its under 1.2L

Infact I found it relatively better in terms of riding position/power delivery/engine response and loads of torque available as compared to current R15.
That might be,because i had really high hopes and it turned out to be damp squib.
Engine was nowhere as refined as a Unicorn or a R15.
and at high revs,it was vibrating a lot.
on the other hand,on the R15,you dont even come to know, when you hit the limiter, its the torque battle where it loses.

I guess that was not the perfect example (the one u rode), I have tested both machines (sufficiently if not extensively) and I must say that it might not be as refined as Unicorn but its fares better than R15.

Maybe those vibration you felt be sorted out after proper run-in period is over.

re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the model numbers are based on the engine size. R15 -150cc, R6 - 600cc, R1 - 1000cc?

If that is correct, the bike should come with a 150cc engine. Or am I missing something?

R15 is the affodable most practical sports bike ever considering our roads. this one will take this superb product to another level. most of us will be running the bike minus the hugger !!

i expect a Fazer with the R15 or a 250 cc engine ...

Superb come back Yamaha

I wonder what the hullabaloo is all about. If the power is not upped to 22ps, which in my opinion is highly improbable (unless its a two stroke), this would be nothing but yet another lame cosmetic update.
Perhaps the happiest would be the people waiting for a mota tyre on their R15s.

Thumbs down to this unless it has any mechanical updates.

Just read on bikeadvice.in

The Spy Photo of the 2011 Yamaha R15 has been removed following the request from Yamaha. Yamaha declines to comment on the speculation and remains silent about the launch date which is rumored to be on June 14th 2011

re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

I just went to Patny Motors in Hyderabad and enquired abt R15 Upgrade. After I befriended the guy in the showroom. He said in a very hush hush tone that they were expecting the new R15 and the R125 as well. Although I am surprised about the R125 coming. He took my number and said he would call me when he gets a go ahead from Yamaha. He did not release a lot of information though. I hope my phone rings soon now

re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

I really dont understand why you people are 'surprised' seeing the 22 horses for the new R15. Probably you people are not into bike mods!!!

For everyone's kind info, Yamaha had offered Daytona 'Performance Kits' for R15 with a price tag of around 28k from 2009 last quarter. One of my friends had taken that and his R15 was really a pocket rocket!!! If Iam not wrong, the company 'modded' R15 took to 100kmph in less than 10 secs.

[The Racing kit parts include race ECU, High lift cams, full exhaust system, special alloy sprockets, adjustable back steps and braking parts like big diameter petal disc brakes, master cylinder, and stainless steel hose.]

So to me, it never is a surprise if Yamaha fits the same kit as a standard fitment to BEAT the CBR250. And about 10k price reduction on top of this, Iam not quite sure. Price is always the 'wrong' guess in most 'rumours'. New R15 with so much power and performance should be atleast 10-15k dearer I feel.

FYI Daytona kits aren't street legal.

Internationally, for licensing purposes a 150cc M'cycle can't make more than 17 horses and a 125 can belt out not more than 15 bhp. Reason why R 125 pumps out 15ps in Europe/UK etc.

(Know there is a difference between ps & bhp)

Agree. But atleast some part of the kit can be used in the upgrade for eg: the ECU remapping. And are there any such legalities in India for horses? Had it been illegal how would they ever offer it officially? And I still remember the news from Yamaha when they said "Now we have a new Fastest Indian".

We should show him videos of Joel own R15, that would be enough for proving there are people out there who are into real mods to remove real power from the R15.
Sam that bike can anyday take on a Ninja let alone a CBR. If you doubt me just check out his thread on this forum itself. From Daytona the only useful thing IMO is the front braided lines and sprockets.

Sam, the complete kit costed 50-60k and gave you a bump of barely 1-2 bhp where as Joel can really build a R15 that can produce 22 PS of power but then not many things would be street legal, so whats the use? Also just for arguments sake, the there are 150cc bikes running power close to the ninja.

re: Spy Pics: Yamaha R15 REFRESH EDIT: Version 2.0 launched

Are these power figures of modded bikes checked on a Dyno?

I am not very knowledgeable about how far mechanicals can be stretched, but 22 bhp from 150 cc sounds much too high. What exactly could be changed to get such power without having issues with ARAI approval?
